Chris Perkins Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Does anybody have any recent auction/price data on these? This is plain edge, ESC401. Picture attached.....and I don't really know what I should ask for it. Quote
Rob Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Does anybody have any recent auction/price data on these? This is plain edge, ESC401. Picture attached.....and I don't really know what I should ask for it.I bought the iron example at DNW's sale last September, lot 3572, which was a piece virtually as struck and not listed in Linecar & Stone or ESC. The hammer price was £1400 (£1652 incl prem.). The lot before was ESC 401 with a plain edge which hammered at £820 (about £960 with prem.). The grade descriptions in the catalogue were identical, but I didn't look at the silver one to check if the grade was correct or not. Nor can I tell whether yours and the DNW piece are the same coin because of the different lighting conditions. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 My image is a scan, which is rubbish because the high relief bust doesn't lend itself to scanning. It is very much as struck with the odd trivial mark and delightful toning on the rev.I'm certain it isn't the DNW piece because it came with a collection from a chap that hasn't been active recently. Thanks for the info, I'll list it on the website for £950.00 after I've done better pictures. Unless you want it Rob, £850 to you - or any other forum member for that matter. As I write this I am also about to list the cartwheel 1d and 2d proofs that I mentioned in a previous topic. Quote
Rob Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) No thanks. It's from the same die pair as mine, so I wouldn't want two. Phosphor bronze, platinum or zinc would be interesting as would a 1914 twelve groats or a 1913 octorino and eightpence. Or better still, any of these designs in the aforementioned metals. Chris Perkins Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Fair enough. None of those that you mention are the kinds of coins you find at boot sales! Quote
Peckris Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Oops, I'd never spotted the legend misspelling before! BRITANIARVM instead of BRITANNIARVM. No wonder it wasn't adopted! Quote
Pete4810 Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Rob and Chris,How did you get on selling this coin in the end?I think I have one - it seems to be identical to the photos and was wondering what the best way to sell it would be - any top tips or advice? Quote
Rob Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 (edited) What metal is it struck in? Which die pair is it. PM me a picture as I need a couple types/metals. Depending on what you have, I might be interested. Weight? Edited May 3, 2015 by Rob Quote
