Voynov_BG Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Hi,I have checked maybe over 1000 halfpennies 1880-1890s but never seen similar nose. Have you seen similar nose? Maybe it is common variety? Thanks Quote
Peckris Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Hi,I have checked maybe over 1000 halfpennies 1880-1890s but never seen similar nose. Have you seen similar nose? Maybe it is common variety? ThanksIt's an interesting quirk Voynov, but to my eyes it looks like a metal deformity that is in just the right place to give the impression of a hooked nose? It looks just a little TOO hooked to be part of the design. See what others think... Quote
Voynov_BG Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 Yes, "Voynov is from Bulgaria, so... interesting quirk!" It is really TOO hooked, but I think that there is no metal deformity and coin is as struck, maybe never cleaned.New picture:(Coin shown as received from UK, there is no manipulations in Bulgaria ) Quote
RLC35 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 I looked at 8 pennies I have, and only found one (1) that had the bump on the nose. It is not quite as pronounced as your copy, but is definatly bigger than the other 7 coins. I tried to send a copy of it, but the file was too big. I will have to adjust my camera, and send it later. Voynov_BG Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 There is a very-very thin line (as shown) and I think that this coin is from die with small broken part on the nose. I hope that someone else will confirmed that he had seen similar defects. Quote
RLC35 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Here is my coin. It is not as pronounced as yours, but very different than any of the others that I have. Quote
