Rory Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Once again, sorry for the poor quality of the photos. I'm not really sure of the story behind how this coin came to be in my posession, i think maybe a family member found it with a metal detector. Its roughly the same size as a 2 pence piece, but really thin. Pretty sure its copper. I've been trying to find out what it is, but i've just got no clue how to go about it. So i was hoping that even if nobody could name it, they could perhaps recognize enough characteristics to fit it into some kind of catagory for me.On a personal note, i really like this coin, something about it i find real intriguing. I only wish i had more luck with my own metal detector, all i find are bottle tops and rusty old nails. Quote
azda Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Rory, best way for me to capture an image is always in natural daylight and not at night with a flash, maybe that will help with better images, or if you have a scanner that works for some people also, i personally use a digi camera in natural daylight. Peter Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I'm not 100% but the reverse has a French Jetton look about it Circa 15/16C Quote
Rory Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 thanks peter, after researching what you said, you seem to be right. The design seems either french of flemish. In case anyones interested, jettons were apparantly used for counting, in games, as a propaganda tool or as a form of art. Quote
