hactonhouse Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Few years ago bought a 1560-1 Elizabeth 1 shilling (S-2555) slabbed by NGC and graded VF35.Now surplus to requirements and looking to sell.Checked Spink and the illustration shows the mintmark on the reverse as the martlet which indicates minted in London. My coin shows the cross crosslet which indicates minted at The Tower.I appreciate that it is unlikely that someone has the mintage figures for this coin at the different mints. I would however be interested to know if the mintmark affects the value of the coin.I have tried to take scans and photographs of the coin but the results have been too disappointing to post. Quote

VF may be a reasonable mid range coin, but not a stunningly desirable 'must have' and so you would be aiming at the type collector in all probability who would be content with either mark. Some busts are rarer than others for a given mark. If it is bust 3J however, please PM me because we need to discuss a purchase as I need one of these. Edited February 10, 2010 by Rob Quote
hactonhouse Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks for that Rob. Now put my dreams of early retirement on hold as a result. The bust would appear to be 3C.Looks like the auction will now be ebay rather than Christies. Quote
Peter Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Just checked out mine its a Martlet (quack).I got it on a whim....a type collector.I just went for a half decent bust which are like hens teeth. Not one for my selling pot at present.I will post a picture later as it could maybe raise a few £ to pursue farthings or a 50 inch TV. Coin_Hunter Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 I didn't know martlets went "quack"... Quote
