Guest reluctant_numismatist Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Still sorting through various assorted boxes and flips, came across this, any idea what it is? (The colour is deep bronze so I had to lighten the scan considerably to make the detail visible.) An IoM issue perhaps? Quote

Guest reluctant_numismatist Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Depends on the size Oh yeah, (duh) well that should have been obvious to me. Here it is again next to a QEII ha'penny: Quote
Guest reluctant_numismatist Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Aha! Having received my first ever coin catalogue in the post today I now know that it is indeed an Isle of Man 1813 Halfpenny and worth £8 at F grade. Fun, this coin collecting lark, isn't it? Quote

Oops - can you double check? If it's the same size as a QEII halfpenny, it may well be a farthing! (That sounds confusing I know, but the 1797 penny is MUCH larger than a QEII penny, so the same should apply to the halfpenny ... I'm not certain, it's just a thought) Quote

It's likely to be the Halfpenny then? Quote

I'm afraid I'm not an expert on IOM coins but I do have a worn 1798 somewhere, and I THOUGHT it was a farthing, but indeed it could be a halfpenny. Though I'm still puzzled why it's only the same size as a bronze 1/2d Quote
