Peckris Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 we have found two 5 shilling coins in Dads house , they are dated 1953 and they are inscribed queen elizabeth the 2nd and we were just wondering if they have any value ?They are Coronation crowns - unfortunately not rare at all. Worth between £2 - £5. Unless the edge reads "FAITH AND TRUTH I WILL BEAR UNTO YO" (instead of "YOU" - the so-called "hip hop error" ) in which case it would be worth between £30 - £80 depending on condition. The proofs are worth between £15 - £25. Quote
VickySilver Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 By all means, chck the edge as Peckris has said - there are other edge variants, some not listed. I have the "hip hop" version but also one with about 2/3 of the edge overstruck with rotated lettering. Probably the common varieties but always worth the check. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I couldn't resist coining that term for the UNTO YO! Pleased it caught on at last. Quote
