william Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 No luck (??) like this... Test 3 (I'm giving up after this one) Quote
Sylvester Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 Well i wouldn't pay extra for a lower grade 'celebrity' coin, i'd rather have the less well known BU one. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 7, 2004 Author Posted May 7, 2004 I would buy a BU coin but I would like it to have a pedigree. You never know, one day our coins may be worth more due to the fact that they have graced our cabinets! Quote

Dream on...Well i wouldn't pay extra for a lower grade 'celebrity' coin, i'd rather have the less well known BU one.Well, so would I, but I meant if I had two coins of the same grade I would rather have one with a pedigree (tried a new approach with this quoting thing)... Half Penny Jon Posted May 7, 2004 Author Posted May 7, 2004 Well done william, also, you might one day become a fellow slanley or Nicholson so don't give up on it! Quote
william Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 (edited) Well done william, also, you might one day become a fellow slanley or Nicholson so don't give up on it!Yes, my third farthing might be sold for millions in the future, cos it graced the William cabinet (still hasn't come yet Chris, maybe tomorrow...). Have you ever heard of the Marshall collection that Spink are selling, Mashall is my surname! Edited May 7, 2004 by william Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 7, 2004 Author Posted May 7, 2004 The 1903 half penny in BU that I bought from Colin Cooke came today but no one was home when it arrived so I have to go and pick it up tommorrow . I hope it looks good when I do eventually get it! Quote
william Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 I hope you do like it! I just hope that none of my coins ever get lost in the post, especially this one, I'm desperate for it to arrive... Quote
Emperor Oli Posted May 7, 2004 Posted May 7, 2004 My coins from Mr Cooke were just dropped through the door I think although they were extremely well packaged. Quote
kuhli Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Well i wouldn't pay extra for a lower grade 'celebrity' coin, i'd rather have the less well known BU one. I agree!! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 I recieved the coin today from Colin. It's brilliant. One step closer to fulfilling my date run. Quote
william Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I recieved the coin today from Colin. It's brilliant. One step closer to fulfilling my date run. I also recieved mine today! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 9, 2004 Author Posted May 9, 2004 Good, Good. Are you pleased with it? Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 9, 2004 Author Posted May 9, 2004 My coins from Mr Cooke were just dropped through the door I think although they were extremely well packaged. I find it funny the way he always uses cereal packaging to protect coins in the post. Quote
william Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Good, Good. Are you pleased with it? Very pleased! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 9, 2004 Author Posted May 9, 2004 I thought so, after all, Chris has an excellent service! Quote
william Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Yes, he does, I particularly like the fact that most of his coins have pictures... Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 9, 2004 Author Posted May 9, 2004 Yes. It's good that he has a picture for most of his coins. I find that most dealers don't bother showing a photo of a coin priced less than £20.00. Quote
william Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Yeah, Colin Cooke only does it for the high grade ones Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted May 9, 2004 Author Posted May 9, 2004 I think that's a shame beacuse he would probably get more business with more photo's (not that he isn't doing good at the moment). He even has an I.T specialist amoung his staff. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 I don't mind buying without pictures from a reputable site - Cooke and Chris here go into quite a lot of detail with their pictureless coins and I'm not displeased when I receive them! Quote
Chris Perkins Posted May 9, 2004 Posted May 9, 2004 Thing is chaps, when you've got 100 coins to scan/photograph and you know you'll only get a fiver each for most of them, it can be a drag to scan them all, and it can be tempting to just scan the more expensive ones! It's pretty labour intensive, so I can understand where Colin is coming from. And he probably has enough established customers that trust his grading enough to by the un illustrated coins, so probably doesn't especially need to make images of them. Quote
