Smurf Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 If anyone can tell me anything about it, it would be very much appreciated Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Is it even a coin? It's certainly a funny shape for a coin. Perhaps some kind of stone set in a mount? Quote
Smurf Posted April 8, 2009 Author Posted April 8, 2009 Im not quite sure , it looks really rough on that picture but its actually really smooth and i really dont think its a stone.Ive had it for years and never thought anything of it but i was looking at some rings and chains on a stall a few days ago and the woman asked to look at it and she said its an old coin and that i should get it looked at.Its plain on 1 side then the other side (as the picture shows) looks like a backwards "K" which is the 1st initial of my son which is why i wear it.Also it smells like copper. If any of that helps. Geordie582 Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 The 'K' symbol is common on Byzantine coins but why it should be reversed is a mystery. I'd say it is of the same style as that used. Quote
scottishmoney Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Indeed it does appear to be a very worn Byzantine bronze coin, in reference to the earlier post though, it does appear as though it was placed in the mount upside down. Quote
