Alan Parry Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 After 4 years of metal detecting I have finally struck gold!A 1725 George I Half Guinea, found under a tree ,where someone sat down and lost it.This is how it came out of the ground. Quote
RLC35 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Alan,Nice find! Spink (2007) shows the value at 200 pounds sterling, in fine condition. I have a group of friends here in Indiana (USA) that go over to Great Britain twice a year, and go metal detecting. They go to a small town between London and Portsmouth...I don't know the name. There is a guide that takes the whole group out to the site, which has just been plowed to help bring artifacts to the surface. They have been very lucky so far, finding mostly silver, and Copper, but an occassional gold as well.Good luck to you.Bob C. Quote

I was thinking about saving up for a Teknetics T2 or a Fisher F75.I would like to join a local club. Do you detect with a club or on your own? If on your own how do you go about approaching land owners for permission? Do you read up and research into potential good sites prior to asking for permission? Quote
