I have recently purchased a coind depicting Winston Chuchill dated1965,

it's avery largish silver coin.

I bought it because I liked the look of it has it any real value?

Whoa ho you've opened a real can of worms here! Most numismatists (us) agree that it is a vile coin as one will ever see. How much did you buy it for btw? It isn't worth anything at all, unless in mint condition, where then it is only worth a couple of pounds. A man welded one to his bike the other day, theres some pics in another topic.

(Well handled Oli, although you'd be lucky to get £2.00 for one. I sell them for £1 each)

marigold dubois; firstly, well done for choosing to ask in this forum...the coin you have is a commemorative crown, it commemorates winston chirchill. this coin was the last crown produce before decimaliseation, it was the 3rd crown made in the reign of our current monarch Queen elizabeth II...hope this helps :)

and yes, it is only worth £2.00 if it has never reached circulation...

Marigold,

In the US these are fetching a dollar a pop for your run-of-the-mill example, but if you really liked the looks of it then it's a good buy for you. Isn't coin collecting all about loving the coins you have? I have a Churchill that I really like--there's something about it (apart from it being mine) that makes it much nicer than every other one I have seen. And Churchill had quite a sense of humor too, something to recommend his crown!
