Chris Perkins Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Those sodding spam bots were at it again; posting links to Trojan horses and posts containing pornographic images, adverts for viagra etc etc from Servers located in Latvia, Panama and the Netherlands (not usually spam bot countries). Somehow they'd managed to get around the registration security in the version of forum software I was using. This is something that none had managed to do for quite sometime. So I have updated the forum software. Existing users probably won't notice any differences but wanna-be registrants will be confronted with new security in order to become a member (relating to the jumbled text/numbers that you have to type in). Geordie582 Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) You're not the only site to be targeted. The other two I use have been too. It seems to be a sudden concerted effort for some inane reason. Hope your new arrangemet work! Edited October 4, 2008 by Geordie582 Quote
Kronos Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Why don't they do something interesting like collecting coins instead of writing spam programs etc. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 6, 2008 Author Posted October 6, 2008 Sad but true, but there's probably more money involved in criminal spamming! Even though it is very unethical, especially if it exposes children to unsuitable images which would have happened if I'd not removed some previous posts very quickly indeed! And of course a lot of it is intended to expose computers to viruses in order to get hold of credit card etc info. Quote
Geordie582 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Unfortunately, like the common cold, it's something that will be with us until some boffin comes up with a cure. Sadly not in the foreseeable future. Quote
