Guest mark.johnnson Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Hi, my father has had a coin he found when he was a boy, over 50 years ago. We were trying to find out what coin exactly it was, but haven't had much luck so far. Would be very grateful if you would be able to help us. I have attached a picture of each side of the coinThanks Quote
Chris Perkins Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Looks like a Jeton - Counting token circa 1300s usually of French origin. Quote
scottishmoney Posted June 22, 2008 Posted June 22, 2008 It does certainly appear French, but very well could have come to Britain then and even been used as a token still. Curiously some found in Britain were made in what is now Germany. Unfortunately while it is possible to roughly date the pieces based on what is on them, further identification ie where exactly made and by whom gets much more difficult. Conjecture is the name of the game with these. They are very enigmatic. Quote
Peter Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 Could be Flemish or French. There are so many types and varieties. It looks very similar to this onehttp://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...l%3Den%26sa%3DN Quote
