JJVH Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hi, Does any one have any ideas or information on George II Penny dated 1730? I have looked on the web but with little luck. It's been in my collection since I was a kid and now I'm selling off some of the coins. CheersJon Quote

Teg Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Hi,it's a 1/2 penny. I can't tell if it is 1730 or 1739.Someone will know!Teg Quote
JJVH Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Cheers Teg, that would explain why there was nothing on 1730 pennies! Quote
Red Riley Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I think it's a 1730 (the 'O' looks too big for a 1739), but it doesn't matter a lot since they're both fairly common. Based purely on the reverse and assuming that it can be confirmed as one or the other, I think you should be looking at approximately £10-£14. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I buy coins, preferably whole collections of them. Let me know if you'd like to sell them all to me!Actually I'm very low on stock and shall be putting an appeal in the forum for doubles/spares etc soon. Quote
JJVH Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Hi Chris, The coin collection is from my childhood so nothing really interesting. I have already sold all of my silver silver shillings, 3d,6d coins on ebay and sunk the money into silver maples (Mmmmm, shiney silver!).here's a cut and paste of whats left. Chris Perkins Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 As usual, all the stuff with any potential goes onto ebay and get scattered about. What a shame.I can also obtain Silver maples and other new silver bullion coins. We could have swapped! Quote
JJVH Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 I know what you mean about scattering a collection, I had great fun building it up in the 80's when you could pick up coins for very little. About 14 years ago I gave my young cousin about 20 Victorian pennies and half pennies, all fine/very fine, with quit a few bun pennies in there, to get him started in collecting. Little sod swapped them all for stickers and sweets Quote

Chris Perkins Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I had a friend who saved all the Florins in the 80s when they were still used as 10p. He had loads, and they were all well circulated and just worth 10p, but he was proud of them. His younger brother nicked them and bought some DJ decks! Quote

Do you happen to have amongst them one with the second A of GRATIA aligning with a space between two rim beads. If you have I'd be interested in it to compleate my run of EII sixpences.ThanksGary Quote
JJVH Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 I've checked and they all line up with the dots. Sorry Quote
