Raoul Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Went out with my mate this morning detected a few schools and ended up with $39 dollars and this 1926 florin, it was realy badly tarnished and black on one side,i know you are not supposed to clean coins but i couldn't stand to see it in this condition. First of soap and toothbrush that made no differance than i tried to soak it in silver cleaning soution, still the same, mum had some Jif cleaning solution which is used for cleaning bathrooms and showers so i tried that. wow it brought the coin up like new. Before you tell me that i shouldn't have done that i checked the value of the coin and it was worth $8 dollars in very good condition.Believe me if i find a coin of real value i will leave it as it is.But for coins of little value that stuff brings them to their glory. Chris Perkins Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 So it's still called 'Jiff' over there is it! That's very unfair. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 Yeah, the UK's was recently rebranded "Cif" because that's what it's apparently called on the continent.. Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 It'd called 'Viss' in Germany, so I don't know what the Jiff people are playing at. We bought some today. (sorry Raoul for ignoring your coin, I hope you are very pleased with it!) Quote
Sylvester Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 I think this is a nice time to drop this in...My cat was called Jiffy, but since the renaming of the cleaning product i've been calling him Ciffy. (I know me cruel)And i think you did the best by your coin, i don't think cleaning does much harm to those that have been dug up, or ones that are in low grade already. It's just when people clean nicely toned UNC and BU coins that's when i do my nut. mint_mark Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 If I had a cat, I'd name him XerxesEven if he wasn't a Persian? Quote
Guest ukgeezer Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 If I had a cat, I'd name him Xerxesi call my cat :- cooking fat ( but thats on a good day ) Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 My cat was called Felix before it ran away because we thought that it was a boy, but when it returned, we discovered that it was a girl! So we re-named her Phoebe. We are 100% sure that it was the same cat on both occasions. Quote
Sylvester Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Why 'Cooking fat'?! you never suffered from a spoonerism every once in a while ? (i do it all the time myself).Swap the C and the F round and then see what you get.I believe i heard that one from Carry On Loving, but don't quote me on that. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Spamming. The rules lie in tatters now... Quote
