Bolt Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 This a hammered coin, found, I believe in East Anglia. 20mm. It is very slightly mis-shapen and a little dark, hence I have lightened the picture as my scanner likes neither of those things. Can anyone id it for me? Geordie582 Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) With the state of the obverse, it's difficult, but I'd guess a crusader coin. Check out this website (click on links, bottom left) It shows various coins of very similar appearance.http://members.tripod.com/~Charlemagne64/crusader.htmlor--- try France on this link http://www.medievalcrusades.com/europeancoins.htm Edited September 28, 2007 by Geordie582 Quote
TomGoodheart Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) The two Lis on the obv and cross with lis in alternate quarters suggest medieval France to me. Bit like this one maybe ... Edited September 28, 2007 by TomGoodheart Quote
TomGoodheart Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) Aha! Double Tournois of Philippe IV le Bel possibly Edited September 28, 2007 by TomGoodheart Quote
Geordie582 Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 (edited) I'd agree with TomGoodheart on this one (although Charles II of Anjou is also similar) and the condition does it no favours Edited September 29, 2007 by Geordie582 Quote
