Sylvester Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I'm not very interested in hammered, but it's alright i guess. Have you got anything nice that's medieval then? Well only four coins at the minute. A Canterbury mint Edward I penny from 1302ish, an Henry III long cross penny, moneyor William of Canterbury, a king John penny moneyor Simon of Canterbury and my fave coin in my collection the King Stephen penny, moneyor Richard of Shaftesbury (you thought i was gonna say Canterbury!)I'm selling all my other coins cos i want to save up for a hammered gold quarter noble...hmm hammered gold, a dream i've had for many years, i haven't had any yet, but i'm crossing my fingers, thumbs and toes that one day i will.(just hope a blasted sixpence doesn't turn up when i find a good quarter noble). Sylvester Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 That's beautiful, even with the corrosion. And £179 isn't that bad but I bet people can't understand why anyone would pay that for a coin without the corrosion i couldn't have afforded it, it would have been way up there. Quote
william Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Ooh yes, i can imagine you trying to choose between a Charles I sixpence and some hammered gold!! Quote
Sylvester Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Ooh yes, i can imagine you trying to choose between a Charles I sixpence and some hammered gold!! Charles I wouldn't do it for me, Charles II would though.kinda like this...(my baby is that... )Dunno i'm not into hammered sixpences (yet), any sixpence with a date between 1674 and 1787 and i'm positively drooling. Those after 1816 i just kinda smile.Medieval hammered gold (not the crowns/unites/rayls and god knows what of the later hammered period). But nobles down to quarter nobles, and possibly on a good day angels do me quite well... Sylvester Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 Till then the star of my collection will be this... Quote
william Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 What's that then? I'm useless with hammered! Quote
Sylvester Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 Stephen, actually you might just be able to see the 'S' if you look hard enough, not very clear, but if you look to the left of the portrait (if you've found that... it took me a while actually ) look to the left you'll see a '+' above that should be the remnants of the 'S', i can't think of any other kings we've had beginning with S.
