Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Hi everyone, Im just wondering what your best coins are. I have 3 old half pennies in BU or UNC and a 1853 penny in UNC. Quote
william Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Hi Penny Master,I have a 1901 farthing in UNC, and a gold gilt 1900 farthing in GEF. I am very pleased with them. Oh yeah, and I have an 1844 half farthing in GEF+. They are my best if we are going by grade, but they are also my favourite coins, along with an 1843/34 threehalfpence, a gothic florin and an 1845 crown with a very low mintage. Quote
Master Jmd Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I have a cartwheel penny (10 leaves) in VF+ condition with lustre around George III's head...an EF lustrous 1854 (OT) penny...but my favourite coin is a Bunc. 1902 Edward VII and Alexandra coronation crown... Quote
william Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I love those Victorian pre 1860 pennies. I wish I had one in that sort of condition. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 (edited) They are my faviorite as you might of guessed by now! Edited April 13, 2004 by Penny Master Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 William,Im just wondering, what year are you in at school? Quote
william Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Year 6. I am also the oldest child in my school! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 Cool, do you know anyone else near you who is interesed in this fabulous hobby? Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 Wow, that must be a really nice coin to have. I would like to get a sovereign of Willian VI but my budget won't stretch that far just yet! Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Oh it is but I'm thinking of selling it to raise money to buy more farthings! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 With that sort of money, you could buy an 1849 farthing in UNC. The best place to look is Colin Cooke's special farthing section. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Oh I have! I splurged about £75 a few weeks ago, significantly furthering my goal to get all farthings in BU condition between 1902 and 1956 Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 If you do manage to meet your goal it will be nothing short of impressive to any Numismatist! Quote
william Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Cool, do you know anyone else near you who is interesed in this fabulous hobby? Nope.(PS Sorry I had to go earlier, I was using a computer at my local library, where I can use the internet for an hour a day, but I had 30 seconds left.) Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 Thats okay, also, I don't know anyone in my area who is interested in numismatics, I suppose we are a bunch of specially selected people with the best hobby ever. Quote
william Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Yep, not everyone has extremely good taste like we all do! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 13, 2004 Author Posted April 13, 2004 I guess you could call us preservers of a unique piece of history! Quote
Chris Perkins Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Mine's an 1833 VF Sovereign Let me know when you want to sell it, and please do post a scan Oli. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Let me know when you want to sell it, and please do post a scan Oli.My scanner's gone dodgy all the colour is out - picture blue farthings and you get the picture! I'll try to get it fixed and post but don't hold your breath! If you do manage to meet your goal it will be nothing short of impressive to any Numismatist!I'm about halfway there. I reckon i'll be finished by Christmas if I keep this pace up! It's the Edward VII ones I'm dreading - it's going to be rather costly Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I have some later proofs (Piedfort 20ps and the like) but no early stuff Quote
Sylvester Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 i'm tempted to add something to this thread... Quote
