Found this sov that someone had turned into a pendent, " what a waste of a beautiful coin" in about 5 feet of water while detecting one of our beaches in West Australia.

I'm curious to know what the cut out insigmia means,if anyone knows i would be pleased to find out. Raoul

Looks like the Greek letter Pi to me... or it would from the other side.

Pi is the symbol for the mathematical constant of course, but it probably means something else here... I also thought it might be a symbol for one of the signs of the Zodiac, but it doesn't look like any of those.

It looks quite stylised to be pi but then again I could be wrong. I thought it looked like an oriental letter of some sort - could it be some sort of club?

One thing's certain though, it'll only be worth bullion value now! But holed and damaged coins are pretty interesting; they've got history! :D

What is the date on that exactly, 1926 or 1826?

Looks like 1926 to me

Well it should be 1926 otherwise we've got problems...

What a strange thing that is, why and how would anyone do that? Maybe it's a secret club symbol, you know, funny handshakes, right nipples out, and all that.

Maybe it was cursed or something, and that's why it was thrown away ;)

I know someone in the Masons and their secret handshake (yes, they have one!)

Hello everyone,I haven't collected coins for years.I have a mostly worthless tin of coins in the attic but they have a lot of memories for me.Anyway back to the topic....The symbol on the sovereign is the first Hebrew letter for yaweh or Jehovah-God to you or me.

By the way Chris, nice site I still enjoy reading about coins even if I don't collect these days.
