Hi, I purchased this halfpenny. I know its by Droz but has anybody got any more background about this coin or about Droz? himself?

Is it a brown gilt and does it have the RENDER edge? If so it looks like a P966. What is the die axis on this piece? I would like to know because normally P964-6 (silver plated, gilt and brown gilt) are inverted but P967 & 968 (bronzed and copper) are en medaille which suggests a different striking period. I posted about this last year.

Hi Hussulo. First of all here is the pertinent page and a half of Peck detailing this variety. There are two types of gilt and they are not easy to tell apart. The brown gilt has a hint of brown but is not blindingly obvious until you compare with gilt. I have therefore scanned in a gilt 1806 1/2d which is unambiguously gold to compare with the brown gilt P966. Could you let me know which die axis yours has and which way up the edge reads. Thanks. When you have time, a close up scan of the globe, fingers and paddle would be appreciated if these areas are unworn.

Having tried to attach scans of the pages at 150dpi and images at the same size as the gallery pictures, it says the file size is too big. Something wrong here. Send me your email address and I'll send them by normal email.

Hi Rob I have taken closer pictures of this coin for you at this link becouse I couldn't post anymore pics here. I think you would call it an en meddaille die axis(not the wrong way round) and the edge reads towards the obverse. I'll PM you my email address thanks Rob.
