Chris Perkins Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Here's an interesting screen shot listing the attempted forum registrants from the 23rd May until about midday on the 26th May.This forum does seem to be very popular with Russians! There's also an Iraqi registrant :sI emailed the one on the bottom to confirm that he/she had a genuine interest in coins. Never got a reply, but a day later he/she tried to register again with a different ID!In case any of them are real, I've hidden the email addresses. But, I doubt that very much, they are most probably all automated attempts to gain membership with the intention of spamming about porn, medications and gambling.I think I may as well delete all the @mail.ru account from now on without even asking! Guest Panterex Posted August 28, 2008 Posted August 28, 2008 Well, you are probably right, but at the same time, for russians, e-mails like *@mail.ru, *@ya(yandex).ru, *@rambler.ru... Is as popular as *@hotmail.com, *@gmail.com.............. for us.BUT it's for sure, that mail.ru known as easiest to hack... All the beginners start from mail.ruI emailed the one on the bottom to confirm that he/she had a genuine interest in coins. Never got a reply, but a day later he/she tried to register again with a different ID!Maybe he couldn't log in, thought "I'll try to register one more time...", but User ID was already in the database, so he used different ID? maybe your man doesn't write, but he can read? I know many cases like this... especialy, they do like copy the txt & translate it in some online dictionary... But it's not my case I'm russian myself, well, not realy russian, I'm ukrainian... In any case you were right,- no reply,- no membership....But next time ask me to contact them maybe I could squeeze a word from him/her/them Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Are you really. Scottish Money is a Russia fan and we have a Russian member too but he hasn't posted for a while. I think all those registration attempts were hackers/bots. The system is more secure now and I don't have to intervene so much. Quote

Having said that the rest could be genuine, who knows? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Best to just not let them in. From a Russian server (or Chinese, Korean and certain other Eastern lands) the chances are they just want to spam. If anyone really wants to join and gets blocked for some reason, they will find me.
