I have a silver one pence 2004 coin which does not appear to have been coated in any metals and wondered if this was a special edition or a casting error? I am not a collector but would value any help given.

I was chemically stripping the copper from steel pennies back in the mid 90's while at college!

Thanks guys. It is magnetic so someone has taken the copper off - although saying that I can't see even a little residue on it at all. I'll keep it as a momento for being so unique.

Kind Regards

There is a chemical that will dissolve copper but won't touch steel, so I suspect thats what's happened. It could I suppose also be an error coin struck without being covered in copper....But there's no way that could be proven.

Unless you're called Colin. :D

(Sorry private in-joke, Oli will get it though)

Our history paper was evil! Our entire exam was based on the monasteries and we did one lesson on them!!!

You just had one? We have THREE. The first is on the Treaty of Versailles, the League of Nations and the Cold War, the second is on Germany and America 1918-1945, and the final one which I'll be doing tomorrow is on Vietnam and "The changing role and status of women in the 20th century".

Why do they have to make every subject so moral, why can't history just be about facts....This happened at this time, something else at this time. I think that kind of 'lets try to make you kids well rounded moral individuals' by telling you about all the very bad people and situations in the past really got on my @*@$ at school!

They should have a separate subject to discuss the changing roll of women in the 20th c, and why people have wars etc etc. Social sciences or whatever, even philosophy.

Geography was just as bad too, I wanted to know where all the countries were, and what their capitals were called, why mountains are where they are and how rivers form etc....In Geography we visited Peckham and then Biggin Hill to write down peoples number plate years to help us come to the 'surprise' conclusion that the people seemed better off in semi rural Biggin Hill than they were in suburban shit hole Peckham (no offence all you Peckham forumees)! I had actually realised long ago by myself that Del trotter lived in a poorer area than Winston Churchill!

Teach the kids the names, dates and order of all the British kings and Queens from Celtic to now, teach them the capitals of all the world countries, don't bore then to sleep with all that moral social science poo.

We had two history exams. The first one was examining content on Medicine through time, and Elizabeth I. That was kind of ok but the thing that realli peeved me off is that the major stuff that everyone spent so much time revising didnt come up in the paper!!!

I find that always happens, you've gotta either take a chance or revise it all really well!

Do your invigilators always patronise you? I'm so fed up with the fat b**ch...i mean the invigilatoress mouthing every word over and over again at the beginning of each exam as if we were three years old and taking a basic skills test.

Haha, in some instances that may be true. My Business and Food Technology exams could have been done by 3 year olds and I am Higher Tier! However, my Chemistry and Physics exams were evil!

My dad seems to think that exams were harder in 'his day' too lol :D

I liked the history of medicine, it wasn't one of those horrible history modules putting marxist/socialist views on everything and then claiming to be unbiased. Which is the reason i avoid modern history. To moralistic. Older history tends to be taught the old fashioned way.

You're meant to read those green and red cards out verbatim so they can't really change it. I'll be glad when it's over though, I can't wait until the Sixth Form.

Ditto, at last we'll be treated like adults! The fact that we can go to town every lunch dosent come into it :P
