Geordie582 Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) As all coin collectors, I 'attract' various foreign coins from boot sales. junk shops and the like. This little copper intregued me as it has no country stated. I guess it's scandinavian, but trawling through Krause and Reinfeld books I can't find even one like it. Maybe I'm just missing it. Can you help?http://www.omnicoin.com/coins/899504.jpg Edited May 28, 2005 by Geordie582 Quote
Emperor Oli Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) My gut reaction was that it was from one of the German states pre-unification. Let me dig around on eBay and Google, I'll see what I can come up with.Edit: I guessed wrong.Edit: Ooook I googled a long shot but I think I'm getting somewhere. I recall seeing the coat of arms on some East India regalia. I think it's Dutch East Indies. Edited May 28, 2005 by Emperor Oli Quote
Emperor Oli Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 (edited) There we go! Sheesh I shoulda let Chris handle it Edit: You see the same coat of arms on this Half Stuiver. Edited May 28, 2005 by Emperor Oli Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 29, 2005 Author Posted May 29, 2005 (edited) So Holland, not Dutch East Indies?I've added a couple of more coins from the batch. The rest are post war. Edited May 29, 2005 by Geordie582 Quote
Chris Perkins Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 Yes, it's a Netherlands cent, non colonial. Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 29, 2005 Author Posted May 29, 2005 Thanks Chris! It's surprising what you come across when "ratching"!! Quote
mint_mark Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 It's in good condition for the type, usually much worse... I have an 1823 in VG Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 29, 2005 Author Posted May 29, 2005 I edited my post to include the other coins i found, but perhaps you haven't seen the change? On my Omnicoin site! Quote
mint_mark Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 OK, I went to have a look... they all seem to be identified. For the German one, you need to look at the tiny mint mark letter either side of the eagle's tail (is it B, or D? Can't quite tell). And the Netherlands 1 cent is surely 1823 (not 1825). Quote
Geordie582 Posted May 29, 2005 Author Posted May 29, 2005 It's D. I don't really collect these - just ammass! Thought youl'd be interested in what is still floating around the old UK! Quote
Geordie582 Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 And the Netherlands 1 cent is surely 1823 (not 1825). Touche! Quote
