has seen better days but thats 3 whole ones from the same area, along with some cut halfs,  and my second hammy this year

From the portrait I can say that it's definitely not Richard I, or Henry II come to that. Probably John, but could also be Henry III I suppose. I think can make out L.O on the reverse so the moneyer could be RAVL, but that's a wild guess.

On second thoughts RAVL is too early (classes 1-2). If L.O is correct then only SAMVEL (Canterbury) would work.

Abel would also end in an L. The portrait has the vacant look in the eyes you see on class 5c coins of John.

Oh yes, I missed him when scanning the moneyer list earlier.

I showed the pictures to Gerry S this afternoon too and we wasted a couple of minutes on it. Still none the wiser though.

It's probably ABEL as the ON starts just before the six oclock position. SAMVEL would extend further round the coin.
