spoonman Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 I'm a beginner coin collector and need help identifying a clipped coin. Purchased it on ebay from a reputable seller , but very little info given about the coin in the description other than ENGLISH EDWARD SILVER PENNY COIN 1d LONDON MINT. (maybe a redlight ?) Did a little research and thought that it resembles an Edward 1st penny type 2A or 2B (reversed bar N's , abbreviation marks short wedges , similar crown ) The thing that makes me think it isnt real is the observe legend which appears to be EDW R' NGAL' DNS' HYB and obvious misspelling of ANGL or perhaps even that the A is missing all together EDW R' NGL' DNS' HYB . The kings name could be EDWR but i can't see how this would fit with the other letters with no place for the REX or R part of the legend. any ideas ? thanks Quote
Coys55 Posted January 6, 2018 Posted January 6, 2018 The NGL spelling error is recorded in London class 6a and 9b1 so I wouldn't be surprised to find it in other classes too. Quote
