 In my "Grumpy ol;d man - Victor Meldrew" incarnation. I approached my bank to ask when the new £5 coins will be issued. I was told that "we don't deal in those, you have to BUY them from the mint". Come on!! If it's a coin then it should be available for circulation! So it isn't used much, but it still is part of our currency. Now the mint are 'selling' them for £9.95 each. Is there anyone else out there that thinks this is a great rip-off? :(

Some post offices will do them, but fair warning to you, if you find one that will exchange a fiver for one, then they'll not take it back.

The Mint usually do a £5-for-£5 offer where you pay £5 and get a £5 in BU, but with no packaging etc.

Not this time judging by their web site! I have been given £5's in change by Tesco and our local bank in the past, but who will use the damned things if they cost nearly twice face value!

I think they do sell them "raw" at face value... but not until quite a while after issue. I've bought some before from their website for £5, with free postage!
