Emperor Oli Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Wait a minute, that dark patch on the reverse looks as if the coating has peeled off. Thats rather odd, I wonder if anyone can shed any lght on this? £21 @ 19:11! Quote
Sylvester Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 Of all the coins i've had the pleasure of having owned (or nearly owning, had cash about to buy, but didn't get round to it cos something else caught my eye before i handed it over) i must admit i've never had a cartwheel twopence. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 This guy has an ambitious "Buy it now" price but his starting one isn't too off mark ;-) Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 This guy has an ambitious "Buy it now" price but his starting one isn't too off mark ;-) What grade would you say that it is? I would say that it is no better than poor. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I'd go for poor on the fact that it is worn but also that it has been cleaned. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Yes, it is very obvious that it has been cleaned. It looks like they have used a metal polish. Quote
william Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Three people had bidded on it too! Do they not realise that it was just like a Coincraft sale and that it should be avoided?! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Lol, if I had it I would just put it in the bin to save any other collectors being dissapointed! Quote
william Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I would enter it in the Ugly Coin Competition on Coinpeople! Quote
Sylvester Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I would enter it in the Ugly Coin Competition on Coinpeople! Oh come on it's not that bad! Quote
william Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Ok, it wouldn't beat that sixpence of yours, but it could probably beat this Barber! Quote
Sylvester Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 the Barber's not such a bad coin actually, so you're probably right. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 Oooooohhhhhhh, that is one very very ugly coin. Quote
william Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 Oooooohhhhhhh, that is one very very ugly coin. Whatever you do, don't look at the dipped sixpence...! Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 I don't intend to because I can't imagine an uglier coin. Quote
william Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 No, I don't think there can be an uglier coin than that sixpence... Quote
custard1966 Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 I think this is the third time this one's been up for sale:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...3910902302&rd=1I didn't bid because I've already got one of those 'rare' pennies with Britannia 'upside down' Quote
Master Jmd Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 A rare 1807 King George III Copper Penny where Britannia is upside down (on the back of the coin).Rare...i dont think it is that rare...If holding the coin where King George III is upright you would expect to rotate the coin over to the other side to see the top of Britannia on the reverse of the top of King George III. However, this coin features the bottom of Britannia to the top of King George III's head.i wouldent expect this to happen... Quote
Chris Perkins Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 That's awful. Isn't it the ultimate in ignornace when someone is genuinely too ignorant to realise they are complety ignorant!!! Quote
Edward Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 I do wonder if there is some way to advertise a coin info service on eBay. Unfortunately there are too many sellers actively attempting to scam buyers, even in the hallowed halls of numismatica.By the way, in case the penny with the 180-degree reverse rotation doesn't interest you, I have a rare cartwheel penny with Britannia facing left instead of right.
