Half Penny Jon Posted October 16, 2004 Posted October 16, 2004 What grade is the milled edge 1929 halfpenny? Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 I have heard of a few milled edge bronze coins. Corbitts had one in their June sale this year in F which sold for £50. Maybe they were trials of some kind? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 Or there is a possibility that it was milled somehow by a 3rd party at some point after it was made. In Freeman there are mentions of pennies that were milled but found out to have been milled later. Quote
Sylvester Posted October 17, 2004 Posted October 17, 2004 No way is that silver, looks to have been chrome plated.Definately looks to be a 'silver' metal other than silver, it's not white enough for silver though. My bet is on chrome. Quote
Coppers Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 This seller gives the concept of ignorance a bad name...Ebay Auction Quote
Master Jmd Posted October 31, 2004 Posted October 31, 2004 Rear coins ay...well, i say that he can stick them up his own rear Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Made from a 1911-1927 penny it is a very unconvincing fake. I really wouldn't pay that much for it. £20 at the most! Quote
Coppers Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Pathetic 1933 fake indeed!A rather princely sum was paid for that fake. I wonder if the buyer was hoping it would turn out to be geniuine -- a rather bad bet considering that the seller was holding all the cards. Quote
Master Jmd Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 ...hmm..and there was me thinking that farthings were demonitised between 1755-17711756 Farthing Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 That looks strangely like a farthing to me JMD. Quote
Master Jmd Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 That looks strangely like a farthing to me JMD. exactly...but it can't be real, can it?...no farthings were minted in 1755 (the year of demonitisation), and a farthing minted in 1756 would surely be extrodinarily rare, would it not? Quote
Sylvester Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Where did you get that from about the farthings being demonetised in the 18th century? Quote
Chris Perkins Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I think he's confusing demonitisation with coins simply not being made in certain years. And from the young portrait, that's 1736 unless I'm very much mistaken. The '3' often looks like a '5'. Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Ah I can see it now, it is definately 1736. Quote
Master Jmd Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 yes, i did not mean demonitised...i meant not minted but couldn't think of what to put ...it does look like a 3 on close inspection i suppose ... Quote
Emperor Oli Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 Since when did Victoria have such a big nose? Quote
Guest geordie582_I'm_a_Guest Posted November 14, 2004 Posted November 14, 2004 OK! so I'm back to being a guest! As regards E-bay, it is a facility that can be used if you keep your wits about you. Some good coins can be found at reasonable prices. Of course, you may be bidding against another seasoned collector so you must set a maximum on the coin, based on YOUR attribution and grade. Take no notice of what the seller says. I bought this Henry II for £5 and, although horrendously pierced, I think the portrate and reverse are as good as they get.(appart from EF of course). Can't add a pic! It won't let me add a file!!! Quote
Geordie582 Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Dejavue!! Sorry about that . Here is the coin in question. Notice, I'm back, Chris??!! Quote
