Indent error

A little help needed with an error if anyone knows - this coin has been slabbed by NGC as a 'double indent' error, but any errors like this I've seen normally have an indent in the shape of the coin itself. Not just that but the pinched part in the middle is also confusing, I'm not sure why it would be raised. Any ideas if the attribution is correct and/or how this would have happened? Thanks in advance.

Do they define an 'indent' as struck-through? Looks like it might a big lamination flaw/cold shut but it also looks broadstruck too.

More or less, I think it's when the thing that is over the coin is another planchet instead of a random piece of metal/cloth or something.

I was speaking to Mr. Diamond at CONECA who thinks that it is a single indent but from a coin with 2 off center strikes (causing the raised part in the middle), he says he's seen a few in his time.

What's a cold shut? I've not heard of that before, is it just another name for a lamination flaw?

Hm, seems a little irregular to be struck through another coin.

I'm not fully up to speed on the different error types but I think a lamination flaw implies a peel (which is caused by a small air pocket or impurity) while a cold shut is more like two separate sheets of metal not properly sticking together and coming apart quite cleanly.

That's what I thought, perhaps if the indent was the same shape as a planchet I could understand. I think that's why he suggested being struck through an double off centre strike.

Laminations I knew of, but I'd never heard of a cold shut! Cheers Mr. T
