George111 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I found what I believe is a roman coin I know its not most of your area but I think I know what I see but I value the fact as you all seem to have a good eye that you may see it too Not good picture I know I've tried scanning the coin Thanks Quote
Rob Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I see a disc of metal that can have an assigned value if you can establish the element or alloy. Sorry, feeling mischievous. Quote
George111 Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 If viewing this on a mobile phone that's probably what you will see I got the orientation slightly off on the second picture tilt head right should make it better LOL Quote
George111 Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 If you had been under the ground for 1900+ years you would not look your best either LOL Quote

jelida Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 It is the right size and appearance for a Roman grot, and there may be a portrait but it is too far gone to be sure. You will have more luck with the coin in hand, rather than any photo I'm afraid. Do you have a local FLO? he might help. Jerry Quote
George111 Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 This is what I believe my coin is, its a from Agrippa I http://www.forumancientcoins.com/catalog/roman-and-greek-coins.asp?param=66828q00.jpg&vpar=928&zpg=78018&fld=http://www.forumancientcoins.com/Coins2/ Quote
George111 Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 Am I the only one who sees this ? Quote
jelida Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Sorry George, as I said above to make anything out of the photo is wishful thinking, it is probably clearer in the hand. But the coin you have identified it as is an incredibly rare coin of Roman Judea, not a coin likely to have made its way to Britain. You need to show it to an expert for an accurate opinion, and even then it may be too far gone. Quote
George111 Posted January 1, 2016 Author Posted January 1, 2016 In hand I can see KA---P parts of this word KAICAP on the heads side, when I tilt it I can see the impressions of the 2 virtical lines either side of the "figures" which make the sides of the "temple" Quote
George111 Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 I can also see vicimarias's legs and arm quite well it looks like a cross/dagger in his hand, can also just about make out the hand shake of the 2 figures "Agrippa"? and "Claudius"? in the centre You can't see the neck of "Claudius"? obviously because of the damage and delamination of metal of that area Quote
George111 Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 I've got a lot coins in worse looking state than this being it could be 1,975 yrs old cAD42 cAD43 Quote
