  1. I don't think they are fakes, that is why I posted on here for your opinions. If it was one of the companies that prey on the elderly and advertise 'silver and gold' coins in the back of the Sunday supplements why use a wrap? Plating would be much cheaper.
  2. I have that is why I think it is a metal foil wrap, rather than plating. Also they are several grammes heavier than the normal coin.
  3. Vintage chocolates possibly a higher value than a first decimal set
  4. This is the complete set, the case is similar to the Accession 50p.
  5. These are pictures of the 5p coin the tear in wrap is visible at 11 o clock
  6. Hopefully the URL should work
  7. The 5p and 10p ae 1968 and the 1/2p, 1p and 2p are 1971
  8. I will upload in the morning, the coins are also dated 1968
  9. I have bought at auction a 'Britains First Decimal Coins' set in a hard red case with gold lettering. What is unusual about this set is that the coins are wrapped in possibly a silver foil. To look at them you would not think them wrapped or anything other than a solid metal coin. The case is similar to the hard cases the Royal Mint used at the time, such as the ones used for the Accession 50p coin. If anybody has any ideas it would be much appreciated.
  10. Second picture of the tail, I bought this in a job lot the coin was in a box, which contained a couple of sovereigns and smaller gold coins. This is where the previous owner had kept his more interesting stuff. I think it is an Edward I coin, however your expertise gentlemen would be more than welcome.
  11. Fingers crossed that this works
  12. In a job lot I acquired a small silver hammered coin, (I will post a picture later), but I think it is a silver penny from 1275 to 1279 an Edward I long cross one, so I am pleased about this.
  13. Seems like an excellent idea, I will follow suit
  14. Peter I have had a dalliance with MGs over the years too, when I return back to dear old Blighty I think that another will be in order, probably the earliest MGF vvc I can get my hands on. With reference to silver I read a few years back that silver will in the long term increase due to its conductive and anti-bacterial properties, the first increase was probably a blip due to the then current financial situation, but long term I hope it will increase. Otherwise what will I do with all the old worn florins?
  15. Wow so much generated through an admission that I like the Churchill crown, better not mention the Britannias then....
