I'm looking at bidding on an 1821 Crown - the auction description is: Crown 1821 SECUNDO ESC 246 EF and lustrous with some contact marks, the portrait frosted Specifically the line 'the portrait frosted'...is this an artificial process that would decrease the value such as cleaning...or a desirable characteristic which is natural? Link to coin: http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?searchlot=1883&searchtype=2&page=Catalogue Thanks in advance!

It's kind of course when I touch it, I'm hoping it's just spotting then? Will this take much value from the piece? Would you still keep it? I'm not too bothered by the groove, just the black spot (I think it's black...I'm quite colourblind) The dollar is lovely. And with my worry mind...any chance if it is the dreaded vertigris...it would spread to other coins such as the dollar!

Hi all, recently posted about a collection of 3 coins I have bought, they arrived today, and the brass one has quite a large black spot on the outer rim that I'm worrying about, and also quite a deep grove... I'm hoping it isn't vertigris? Could someone tell me if it's anything to be concerned about, or I should still be happy?! Also what are the black marks on the front? Thanks! Will add pics in a moment.

Hi all, I have just bought these 2 coins for £215...Do you think I got a decent deal? I love the Trade Dollar and have been after one for a long time...what grade would you say they might be? Also there are a couple of small blemishes on the trade dollar near 'Georgious' are these nothing to worry about? just cosmetic? Thanks for your time Link is to ebay listing I won: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141351110127?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Hi all, I just bought my first Roman Coin today: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121373839864?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I noticed it states 'cleaned' under the description...will this decrease value? Or in cases like Roman coins, can it sometimes help the value if they are cleaned? What do you think of the coin?
