"These dots are the centre points to help with engraving the dies." AHA ! Thanks, that makes sense. Didn't notice the dots on my other ones, since they are very worn, but after looking closer, I found it on one of them.

It probably has nothing really to do with the missing stop, but then again...... Under the kings ear, there is a raised dot about the size of a stop. On the reverse, on Britannia's stomach, exactly opposite to where the dot is under the ear, there is a depression with a raised area inside it. Possibly the stop on the die was clogged with metal, which eventually fell out, and these two marks are the result ????

A while ago, I inquired about the value of two 1699 halfpennies, type t2d, that have no stop after the date. I was disappointed to hear that they are worth about the same as the type with the stop (even though on a site by Tony Clayton the t2d in FINE condition is listed at 5 times the value of the one with the stop). I recently acquired another 1699 halfpenny without the stop, but this one also has no crossbars in the A's. Again from Tony Clayton's site, there is a listing for no crossbar A's, 1699b, but it appears by the placing of this listing, that it is for the type that has the date in the exergue. Is this right, or does it refer to the one with the date after Britannia ? Is there a designated number for a 1699, no stop, no crossbars, or is this combination unknown ? Yes, it has corrosion damage. I'm going to run out of kb's for photos, so I'll make a second post about the stop.

I have these 2 1699 halfpennies that I believe are type 2d - no stop after date. What would the value be for these two low grade ones ?

Noticed that this one has a double profile, as well as VIC and DEI. I read a recent post about the die numbers on sixpence being to check for quality control; I think Little Willie, who was responsible for die #10, was let go after this one.

1929 farthing with clear doubling of the date, and first and last letters of FARTHING.

Have about 10 to eventually ask about. Any extra information greatly appreciated. I would like to be able to clearly identify all of them before selling the extras to buy more coins. Which Edward is this ? What denomination ? 20mm., weight is 1.10 gms. but would be 1.20/1.25 with the missing piece. London mint.

Polished coins are being used for decoration. I had some old Canadian large cents which were rusted, and used Brasso to polish them so that they were super shiny. I was going to make a set of them from 1859 to 1920, but then decided to get rid of them. I listed 9 of them at 9 cents on ebay as polished coins and stated in the description that they had no numismatic value because of the polishing but would be good for decorative purposes. They sold for $16 US!!! Subsequently sold some others at ridiculous prices also. I plan to someday use some to inlay into furniture, etc. They could also make nice poker chips if you can get a whole batch of beat up ones cheap.

Here's the last of my inquiries on my Eliz.I coins. Have a bunch of earlier Edward ??? which I'll post in a new thread later. This one is 18/20 mm., and weighs 1.35 gms. At least you can see the bust on this one ! I think it's 1575 but it looks very strange. Mint Mark ? Would still like to have photos of all the different mint marks.

Can someone point me to photos of the different mintmarks on Elizabeth I coins ? I won't bore you with photos of two other very worn ones, just ask which denominations they are; a) 1575 - 24.5/25.5 mm., 2.45 gms. no date visible - 23mm., 1.75 gms.

I've been lurking here for a number of years (what? since 2005 !). Recently got a microscope camera that can take decent pictures, and figured it's time to find out what some of my British coins are (I collect Canadian coins but like having some real old ones from the motherland). I have 15 hammered, and about 85 others, all pre-1850. Most are identified, but I would like more info for the hammered ones, any listing #'s if possible. A bunch of the others have errors, but again, I have no info about what is listed or not (catalogues too expensive for the small quantity I have), so I was hoping that you can help me out. I can provide close-up photos if needed. I'll list only 1 or 2 a day so I won't hijack the forum and drive you all crazy. Some of the hammered ones are in lousy condition (please don't laugh too much), but any info would be appreciated. First one is a Queen Elizabeth I - 25/26 mm. diameter, 2.79 gms.

Sounds like it would be a repunched 1 with the punch upside down.

Seems every time I get an old British coin, I find something different. This 1700 1/2 p (29 mm., 9.6 gms.) has letters where they are not supposed to be. When I checked Tony Slayton's listings for type, I was surprised to see that instead of a stop or no stop after GVLIELMVS, this coin has an extra MV ! The original MVS are completely screwed up. The bust of the king also seems to be shorter than normal. On the reverse, there is an extra N beside Britannia's head. Any info would be appreciated.

First one is a 16th century Nuremberg token. I have no other info but you can easily find other online info sites by searching " Nuremberg+token". Second coin couldn't be on a Canadian planchet as they were round until 1942.

Okay, penny not halfpenny, missed that, I was going by the digit shape, Freeman 89, but the 6 is still double-thick at the base.
