    From your description it sounds like either a george III cart-wheel penny or 1/2 penny. I don't know their diameter so can't be precise. A photo would be very nice. DONT CLEAN IT.

    Is there a way of differentiating between the .925 silver and 0.5 silver 1920 sixpence, apart from the minute difference in weight. Thanks, Gary

    What's the point of having a coin collection it you are going to keep it in the bank. Its nice to tuck them up warm with a mug of cocoa every evening.

    A coin collection can become valuable quite quickly. I only collect 1900-1967 1/4 - 5/- which is about 800 coins. There's a few thousand pounds worth even if they are only a few pounds each. Then the £500 mahogany coin cabinet. Insurance suddenly looks more appealing.

    I recently added my collection to my existing household insurance and the additional premium wasn't much. One thing that was specified was that I get a proper valuation carried out.

    I bought it as VF but that's another story. I'm more interested in developing my grading so here's another question. Pennies and Half Pennies with Britania, the first point of wear seems to be the fingers around the trident. If this is the only wear would that generally be EF.

    I had noticed him as well, I thought it odd to find him there but as he makes it quite clear that they are copies I thought "Oh well" and left it at that.

    These are the three I have, top left proof, I to right and sharp. Top right is specimen, I to right poor definition. The bottom middle is a currency (I assume) I points to the angle and I'm unsure of the definition. Looking at the hair I'd say poor but looking at the ribbon leads my to sharp. Conclusion, either or both the sharp and poor come in both pointing types.

    The varieties regarding the definition of the head is in reference to the circulation issues, while the varieties regarding the position of the I is in reference to the proof issues. I have a circulation with both positions so I'm unsure if the definition also applies.

    This is a question for Chris, although if anyone else knows the answer please don't be shy. I have just got my copy of Collectors coin GB 2006, great book by the way. Anyway for the entry of the 1953 3d there are two side notes, one regarding the definition of the head and a second about the position of the I in Elizebeth. So my question. Is there two varieties or four. Gary

    Deffusing the light helps cut down the glare even to the point where the light level is quite low then use your software to sort it out after.

    I need to find a tripod and some daylight lights. I find holding a piece of white paper over the light to defuse it makes a big difference. Reducing the shine is a big problem but the pc is very good at restoring colour.

    I'm gradually cataloguing my collection and trying not to be too optimistic with the grades. Could you expert out there give your opinions of this one. The head has a few digs and a little wear to the ear. The tial side has ware to the thistles.

    How do I edit a post once it has been posted. On a couple of occassions I've noticed a typing errors but have been unable to correct them.

    I have a 1956 half penny with Obv 4 (D to bead gap) and L of Half to bead rev D. Micheal Coins rates it as scarce. Condition is probably Good fine to very fine. Does anyone know what constitutes scare and a ball-park value. Gary
