  1. What should be nearer the mark given the possibility it is just a die flaw? Any ideas?? Of course expecting lower offers. Mind you I don't want to end up on the Ebay laughs page!! I feel a tad embarrassed now what is nearer the mark. I would rather see what people might be interested than go through the other channels... Regards Russ777
  2. Looking at the coin in daylight think I was imagining things!
  3. Thanks Azda Any suggestions who to approach ie coin dealers/ where to research. I was hoping it would be ina book somewhere... Is Spink a good bet?? When you save worth much more I suppose as a slight die flaw we are talking a few quid, if tooled either deliberately/error as like a one much more?? In my opninion someone has only tooled the left side top as a one sloping down maybe in error thr rest looks very much as a letter I. Could extraneous material/metal seeping out the die look like this? Regards Russ I am a novice as regards this and I am thinking maybe just seeing what someone would offer on Ebay and letting them either add it to their collection or research more and make their mark up. If this was certificated as a tooling error even in this conditiion what could we be talking so I can guage whether that road is worth my while???
  4. So given the two camps small die flaw/I deliberately replaced what could someone be willing to pay?? I realise this is worn coin. I suppose it depends how many surface. Was this a very popular coin ie; what was the mintage and how big a batch could it be before someone changed it?? How could I confirm scenario 1 or 2??? Am I guessing there is no previous record of this on the 1896 penny??? I am searching 1896 Pennies to see if I can find others.. I suppose even if a die flaw it could be on 1000s of coins???? I am inclined to try flogging it on Ebay. But I am flogging a dead horse. Or would people suggest taking it to a specialist coin dealers/auction house??? Are we talking a couple quid/£10s or even as much as 100? Sorry to be materialistic but could do with the hard cash for my other interests Regards Russ777
  5. I am kicking myself as I put it down after cleaning it. The date is quite worn and actually could be 3/5/4 I might be seeing things as it seems to be higher up. I will try and post if it turns up. I might be seeing a bit of corrosion as a number.
  6. Another one taken in daylight!
  7. Thanks I did wonder if it might be a small flaw as you said. I am going to put some more photos on for everyone to take a look.
  8. I found this one looks like a number 1 has been tooled instead of I in REGINA on 1896 penny I know this penny is quite worn but none of the other I's are effected in this way Has this been recorded? Ideas to possible value? Thanks Russ777
  9. Genuinely have put coin down somewhere will try and update when I eventually find! Russ777
  10. I recently purchased quantity of copper pennies I thought I would clean one as in such a poor state. It appears to be 1864 What intrigues me is that there appears to be a small numeral between the 8 and 6 looks like a small 6 Maybe it is just corrosion but I did notice the 1863 one has dn varieties. Is there any possibilty a die number could be on the 1864?? Regards Russ777

  17. Hi I have seen in a local auction about £100 worth estimate(face) of old size GB 5ps and 10ps Only problem all have that kind of blue/white corrosion. Looks like they might have been buried in the garden in two old crocks! Just wondered if they would hold any value or can be cleaned if they get that bluey white. They are in the auction for the 2nd week and I just wondered. Would anyone here know of I could get the cash if changed at the bank etc or if any dealer would touch?Or any scrap value? Probably could buy the LOT for a quid or two as noone seems interested Russ777
  18. I have been informed the legend is Tyre. Is this 100% fake Chris? Would they not have made more of an effort to make it smooth/perfect and mine has a couple cracks... Maybe just a poor fake? Regards Russ777
  19. Not really. I showed it in another forum and they felt sure it was likely to be genuine as it looked worn rather than over smooth? Also the chap I am handling it for said he had it checked over by a dealer and it was genuine so now I am confused. Chris can you post a picture of yours so I can compare. Is it not possible that wear/would make a coin lighter?? Regards Russ777
  20. I now believe this to be a half shekel or shekel of Melquart's reign Greece. The date letter took like TM. Could anyone help me with the date? Also mine seems a little larger than normal half shekels at 28mm and weighs a little more at 7.6g but does not weigh as much as the 14g of many shekels. If anyone could clear this up please let me know? Or if you could point me to another place that can help identify ancient Greek coins Thanks Russ777
  21. Here is the reverse side:
  22. Can anyone identify this old Greek silver coin? Diameter roughly 2.8cms. Weighs 7.6g I think the chap is Demetrius. i would be grateful for identification date and valuation Thankyou Russ777
  23. Hi I was wondering are all three pences of the bun head issue the same? On one I have the Queens head is totally upside down in relation to the numeral side. Or the other way round which ever way you look at it! The date is 1873. Is this common? Thanks Russ777
  24. So as it is common I guess there is no premium. Would anynone pay more than £1 for it? Does anyone study this in their collection?? Thanks Russ777
