  1. So in manufactuing also edge of OBV shows traces of damage : any ideas what a specialist may pay??? Thanks Russ777
  2. Thanks azda what should I be looking out for??? The image does seem quite worn and less crisp than another 1944 I have Maybe I will post a few good pics. I would probably be something I would be interested in selling. Could it have happened it manufacturing??? You can also see the edge of another coin or die? I am, going to have a look at the OBV and post couple pics there is a gash to the edge OBV ehich could be to do with it? Thanks Russell
  3. Posted this on one of the other parts of forum also. I have a 1944 one penny KGVI that appears to have a shadow of a Y edge of coin dots but no other letter I can see. I thought it might have been caused by another coin/die pressing into the coin but unsure if this could be during manufacturing or after. Could this easily have occurred if two coins pressing together, but equally could that have happened in manufacturing stage after being set if teo coins got pressed together somehow??? I am aware that coins can have letters stamped into them by hand for example someones initials but this is obviously the imprint of another coin on top. I am thinking maybe a newer coin with a harder edge may have made this impression but I am unsure. The coin is slightly worn with a dent on one edge which could be in manufacturing... Please see the scan and let me know. I have seen 100s of pennies and never this before I am sure dealers/Specialists will know! Still an interesting topic though Thanks Russ777
  4. Heres another as the other one does not seem to expand:
  5. Just thought I would add a photo now we have daylight. You can see the Y and edge of another coin imprinted into the edge. Could this be a manufacturing (therefore interesting) or just another coin being pressed into this one??? I have never seen it before and I have seen 100s of these pennies. Maybe someone else has seen it before??? Will add to another secion to try and get an answer Thanks Russ 777
  6. Before I post the picture I would like to know are there any recorded varieties for the KGVI 1944 Penny?? I have a one penny and the Y is imprinted below like a shadow as if impressed into the metal rather than a doubling of the Y. Just below the Y of penny You can also see some of the dots of the outer penny similarly impressed. No other letters or features seem doubled and impressed. Could this just be the case of another Penny being on top the coin in production or fowl play??? If anyone has seen this before (shadowing of lettering impressed into the coin) then that will clear this up. Thanks Russ777
  7. Heres the otherside. I am trying to sell on Ebay but if anyone wants to buy from me here please mail so I save on fees... Anyone who does know value please let me know if Im near the mark Im trying £100/best offer as nice condition Thanks Russ777
  8. I have acquired this a Genuine 18th century calendar medal 1789 George III Maker James Davies Nice condition and I am interested in selling any ideas as to value? I have no catalogue Heres one side otherside will upload in next post Thanks Russ
  9. Name was Speranza not Sparenza. I do seem a bit dyslexic from time to time!
  10. Hi here's another one bought in a lot of mixed UK coinage I think this is some kind of religious medallion. The name of the maker is Sparenza and there is something on the net about him but I cannot find this one. I cannot read Latin?? but maybe someone can help the date is 1874 I am posting pics along three posts. Writing side says: AN MDCCCLXXIV X KAL SEXSTILES SOLEMNIA SAECVLI XVIII A MARTYRIO S APOLLINARUS RAVENNAM MISSI A PETRO APOSTOLO PIO IX PONTIFICE MAX VINCENTIO MORETTIO ARCHIEP RAVEN What do I have here? I guess as it was in a mixed lot and not perfect condition it's not worth much but Sparenza seems to be a maker of fine medals Thanks Russ777
  11. On double checking it is 1873! Apologies thought both were 1883 The one with the die number is 1873 not 1883. The 1883 one I have has no die number. It does appear to be an unrecorded die number according to one list I looked at for 1873 can anyone confirm this? Should the die numbers be that high for one years worth of coins??? Regards Russ777
  12. Hi I recently have purchased two Gothic florins of 1883 One has no die number the other has one it looks like 230 Does anyone have a list of all the die numbers for this date? Do these command any premium I could not find any listed with or without die numbers so does it have any bearing? Thanks Russ777
  13. Yes Azda I know Ebay always has bargain hunters. But I am not risk letting it go for 99p I would rather keep it though it would probably be bid up somewhat.. There always seems some interest in certain Victorian pennies. I have nothing to compare mine to as you say.... I know you said hang on a month and get it checked out, but if in early stages of die breaking up (as Colin G suggests) and an interesting item because the flaw makes the 'I' look like numeral '1' then I will have done very well... I have lowered the start price and done a buy it now. Hoping for someone with deep pockets (not me). I will be satisfied with either amount. I think if just early stages of die breaking up then I will have done quite well would you agree??? Of course as you said a genuine tooling error I could have made much more.... But I am happy with the outcome Regards Russ777

  15. Some interesting ideas maybe a collage?? Azda Regarding Spink and the coin/auction. Firstly it is not 1901 it's a 1896 penny. No takers. But a fair few watchers are you one on the auction Azda? Guessing a couple might just be people from this site. No takers. But people often bid last minute. As regards Spink they are supposed to reply within 48 hours. Well absolutely no reply - not impressed. Guess they are not interested but a prompt reply either way would have been polite! I am thinking of lowering even more with buy it now to see if someone will just snap it up as an interesting coin albeit early stages of die break (more likely) or the other scenario. Russ777
  16. Hi I have a quantity of copper coins some early 19th century. The thing is they are worn some to almost a shiny copper disc. My question is this, what should I do with them? I feel a bit bad chucking them in the bin and they are not good enough for a charity though some you can make out the date. Of course the weight hardly makes them worth buying. I thought about burying them and giving some metal detectorist a bit of fun! I guess there might be 1kg Any suggestions. One scrap dealer was going to offer me £1.50 per kilo on the coins no longer in circulation but this seems hardly worth the effort and may be a rip off. Thanks Russ777
  17. Have changed listing to £300 no reserve and let the market find the value given it could be absolutely nothing this is a good return. I am still trying to get a reply from Spink nothing as yet. But I will see what happens. If they do give a positive response that this might be something rare I can always cancel auction Russ777
  18. Heres the small D flaw pic to top right of letter in IND
  19. I see what you are saying about how unique items are often not recognised in catalogues. I also have noticed that there are two other possible die flaws. A spike of metal on the top left of 'C in 'VICTORIA' and a small metal spike to the top right of IND letter 'D' I am lowering the price to reflect this could well the difficulty in getting anything recognised Of course more may surface Have also contacted Spink and await their reply.. If the item sells I will not be disappointed as a good return. Thanks for all your opinions Regards Russ
  20. I am going to see how it goes as regards offers already people 'watching' interest in the first hour... Maybe then well take to Spink it would be interesting, of course they might say its a load of rubbish!! Russ
  21. Thanks Azda must say you are giving fair advice. So is what you are saying if it turned out to be the error Ebay is not the place?? I just had a look on the site you suggested about grading they do not do error/flaw online, but may be they do it postally. Looks very American,, do you have to post it to US??? Is there no grading in UK? I think I may end up taking it off Ebay. I will try a while. I don't mind if I lose out a bit and someone else gains as at the end of the day I have found a penny that did not cost me a fortune and to someone else it may be an interesting item. You seemed to suggest the other price was far to high. Surely then there is no chance of reaching that kind of money even if authenticated so is it worth the wait??? Sorry for my impatience Russ
  22. That was buy it now/best offer now even lower... is that nearer?
