I have a circulated 1982 twenty pence which seems to have a double 82 of 1982. What could this be? Has this been recorded before? I was thinking it was just excess metal but the shapes appear too round.. The coin is quite worn having been in circulation so I don't know if this happens as the top metal wears down?? Unfortunately it does not appear very well in scan so I have not included a pic. But can be seen under magnifier the other 8and two is to the right and appears less raised. Any idea guys??? Russ777

Thanks Rob at least you can see what I mean above the I in the rim of DEI there also appears a '5' shape It just seems very neat where it is placed Russ777

if you left click on the part view pic it brings it up slightly better, looking at the rim below by D on outer edge looks like a 7 numeral
-
Well it might be my vivid imagination but if you look at first scan it looks like a numeral '7' in the rim just below the D of 'DEI' its small but can you see what I am on about now??? Russ777

Heres the whole coin in case I missed anything. Maybe tampered with or in production? Some areas of coin very clear

Hi heres a close up pic. Could not post last night as too dull. Where we are lookinhg is just above the DEI on heads side I thought it might just be a ding but the one that looks like a '7' got me...
-
To add the numbers are sideways on reading down rhe edge of coin not perpendicular to the Queens head. Probably another case of seeing marks/things that are not there But fascinating it does look like a '7' Russ777

Hi I have an 1856 farthing there appears to be a tiny numeral like a '7' and perhaps a 5 impressed into the very edge of the coin above Victoria's profile so together it could be '57' Is there any reason why this may have been done the more I look it it does look like a tiny 5 and 7 spaced out over DEI is there any reason why his would have been done could it have been off one of the dies and not intended to be impressed Of could this have been done by some eccentric victorian but why bother? The rim also looks quite raised both sides Thanks Russ777

the 'I' in Georgius does appear like a '1' and extends a little further but I had a simialr thing on a victorian coin I posted on this forum and many people thought it was just a bit of metal causing the top of I to look like numeral '1' Also it is where the bump is but it does appear a bit longer than the G next to it. I would want a pretty penny for the coin what do you think my chances are and the best way to describe it? I would be very disappointed if it fetched only 99p! Russ777

Interesting this came in a big box of coins I bought (mostly foreign) I do notice that there is a slight dip where the VI is on OBV and the I appears like a number 1 at top but I think that is probably as it is flattened and the top of serif may be stretched out. I dont know if a 1 could have been used intead of an I ? Here's a pic So what makes you think there are more??? Have these manufacturing flaws been recorded on the 1944 before? I was thinking of contacting Spink or would they just laugh in my face?? Regards Russ777 That's definitely a "1" - see how its base extends further into the field than the letters? Compare its size with the 1 in the date - they should tally. So would the '1' be an extra die error or would it be part of the brocage error??? How much more interesting does this amke this??? Thanks Russ7777

Heres some more detailed pictures for members to study over next few posts: the side view clearly shows where metal overlaps maybe from heat maybe members will notice other things and be able to help Thanks Russ777 -
