  1. I know for a fact that a number of fake £1 coins have been doing the rounds in Northern Ireland.. I have an article somewhere I'll try to dig out
  2. £1.51
  3. Nice wee note. Do we have any Dutch Nationals on the board? When I lived in Limburg I tried to collect all sorts of old notes/coins..aiming for some really old ones surrounding the change of borders and gov'ts etc. Never really spent enough time tho.
  4. If you want I can get the 2 issues of any State coin pretty easily (as and when they are released)..I am back and forth there quite reguarly, and my In Laws are all there.
  5. I've been away for a few weeks (sick actually) and I have to say, this must be one of the most popular Coin forums going!!
  6. Sell them on Ebay..give accurate and truthful description. If they sell, use the money to get yourself a nice wee coin.
  7. Good question...
  8. Tho.. as I have discovered myself, it takes a bit of experience to be able to judge what qualities of a coin increase/decrease value... it is great fun trying tho
  9. Give them to a kid and tell him/her the history, show them a pic of what it should look like, and also a few other coins of the age... would be a great starter present.
  10. Maybe that is the real reason people dig the back off you when your choking..it isn't to help you, it is to get the money!!
  11. It is bound to have happened loads of times..but it has to remembered, back in those days, the working class were more often than not paid for service by being fed, watered and housed.
  12. So tell us more about your friend the cow from Co Down
  13. I wouldn't mind doing the milking..
  14. The best we have to offer in Belfast, is the Ulster Museum. It has quite a lot of old coins from sunken ships etc, as well as those from 15-1600's to the modern day.
  15. What do people think of Petercoins?
  16. TK is a wee island country somewhere in the Pacific. It sells its domain name to companies, but you can also 'rent' them for free.... Tokelau is the name of it.
  17. Not a bad wee site, tho I would be careful about what advice you hand out.. or at leaste make sure it is totally acurate. As I said, good job, and I will visit reguarly to see how you are progressing.
  18. That sounds a bit dodgy.. surely you bought the original cert when you got the coin?
  19. Oh I agree 100%.. I wouldn't buy a coin just to lock it up, but I'm sure there are those who would, and that is the market that those who would slab, are aiming at.
  20. Thank you all... it seems like a good idea for a really expensive/rare coin, but sort of takes away the enjoyment of holding the coin. If I ever have enough money, and want something that would be an investment, then the slabbing route would seem to be the way.
  21. What exactly is 'slabbing'?
  22. Sorry about that.. it never really occured to me. I'll remember for the future.
  23. What about www.Celticcoins.com? As you have probably worked out, I am trailing the internet trying to weed out those that are good, from the majority that aren't...
  24. The reason I asked is because I could see how an amateur, such as myself, could be taken in by the site. I personally don't tend to buy off any websites, and prefer to be able to hold and feel before I part with money (Chris being the one and only exception..and even that was very recent).
  25. Ok.. just to measure opinion, what are your thoughts on these sites? www.certifiedgbcoins.com and www.coinsale.co.uk Edit by Chris: I've left the names there, but removed the links. Mentioning competitors is ok, but I don't want them linked to, as it can help improve their search engine rankings, and why should I want to do that!
