Colin told my wife not to pay more than £100...she did Cooke's usually use the gizzmo which bids 5 seconds from the end of the auction....I've laughed to myself watching key date farthings getting picked off. Try £101.77...if the Cookes are paying £90 then that says something.

Hi Helen It would seem you have a farthing or a halfpenny. 22/23mm dia = farthing 26/29mm dia = 1/2d. I love the design of these coins. There are loads of varieties(different die's) for this date....but 1721 is one of the most common dates found.

Chris Burning midnight oil.....Working at home today Watching Ebay basics seem so expensive. Any pre 1920's silver seems to do well...Although decent 20C 1D's &1/2D's seem to be cheap. Vickie Shillings are almost unobtainable at book price ....I just need 82 but I'm bored with this and have moved on.

Hi Raoul From your pictures I would grade your half sovereign at NVF.It also has an edge knock on the reverse. The book price for a Melbourne mint mark is around £90 to £110. (m) The book price for a Sydney mint mark is around £375 to £425 (s) You will see the mint mark on the reverse under the shield. If my grading is low....it could be worth a lot more but gold is often overgraded.EF samples are very rare. A dealer will usually pay 50 to 60% of book price. A nice find......I hope this helps.... PS Gold is very popular on Ebay so the market value is rising.

Chris You're still young ....try another 18 years in the rat race. I've got equity in the house...Mrs Peter working part time....a lousy pension forecast (watch this boys it will bite you). I could drive a local bus or work in a petrol station and survive. I'm going to get out now. My BP is still way OTT. A job in a museum or lap dancing club would be ideal(I don't dance).

Both coins appear to be in less than fine condition. Whether the Isle of Man coin is a halfpenny or penny it makes little difference to its value. On Ebay quite frankly anything over £10 each would be a result.There are plenty of mugs out there.

Although no expert on US coins I do own a Red Book. Eisenhower Doolars were minted 1971-78. Two main types 1) for collectors outer layer of silcer to a copper core. 24.59 grams 2) general issue of .750 copper/.250 nickel bonded to inner core of copper.22.68 grams. Both 38.1mm dia No mention of Gold.

Its called delegation....I'm at an age when I feel I no longer want to work....but delegate and get involved at the last minute to take the Lunch and Glory. I've been doing over 50,000 miles a year and still putting in 40 to 60 hrs a week. My dearest wish is to get involved with coins and sod the rat race. Whiffs of forgery. Whether Charles 1 or modern. Can you post a picture or give a link to the Ebay item.

To start off if its 29mm dia its a 1/2d or 35mm dia its a 1d. If you have difficulty ID George 111 to Victoria I guess its in pretty poor shape. Both coins are vey common. Look at a coin which is about 10/15 years old in your change .....this will probably be in Fine to very fine condition. If you're 1806 coin is in similar shape it could be worth £5 to £15. Any condition lesser ie no hair detail/lettering rubbed out...greenish tinge maybe 25p tops.

Hi The 1935 shilling is 50% silver so has a bullion value of 20 to 30p. It would need to be in superb condition to really be worth anything. The 1775 penny doesn't exist. It is probably a 1/2d....28mmm dia ? The copper coins of this era were predominantly forgeries.....these are collectable in their own right. (Its probably a bit green ???? It all depends on condition.

They are a legless lizard (similar to me sometimes) Compared to worms they are very fast but to snakes very SLOW. I think their quarry includes snails,slugs etc (where pace isn't required. )

Living in Suffolk we see a lot of snakes especially in the brecklands. Adders,grass snakes and slow worms. Past Contracts I've worked upon have required reptile relocation......A D6 bulldozer seems to do the trick

Hi Smk ART's suggestions are for a global insight. There are many specialist books on various denominations....find out what you like and go from there. I bought my 1st Red book(spiral) last year...very impressive . My advice would be... 1 CCGB (its great value) 2 Spink....2006 will be out soon so bargains to be had.(I still use 2004) 3 Coincrafts massive book..latest edition 2000....a wealth of knowledge. Specialist books are a separate subject.

Looks like Euro's have been abandoned. The 1/4d stopped being minted in 1956...we had decimilastion in 1971.....the 1/2p stopped in 1984. £4.99 would simply become £4.98 and save the mint a fortune.... If the mint gave a little error (to say) every 10,000th coin it would keep us collectors busy.

Get rid of the 1p 2p and 5p should be a similar design & with an uncluttered Brittania.(Croker?)..obviously different sizes. I would be happy to see a MAJOR minting of £5 coins and phasing out of the fiver. Too many commemeratives I believe spoil a denomination. How about Proof's issued by the mint (max of three per year) with an agreed % of currency strikes issued randomly into circulation....say 10%,10% & 5%. I like the idea of landmarks appearing on reverse's both new and old.....and British achievements. I don't want to see fluffy little creatures. A series of ex Primeministers portraits would be fun?
