  1. Yes sadly very much a fake - the look and feel is all wrong even before you start looking at the detail. Do you have a link to the original listing on Ebay? Just so we can identify yet another fraudulent seller. I suggest you go for your money back, unless it was ridiculously cheap and so one could say you should have realised it was a copy...

    Victoria Halfpenny - Obverse 14 or 15?

Thanks for all the thoughts - I guess I will have to accept it is 15. I find the bridge of the nose measure very difficult to judge. The bulging forehead and the alignment of colons are much easier to see.
  3. Anyone like to put me out of my misery? Which Obverse 14 or 15? I THINK it is 14, but my eyes have gone crossed looking at Freeman.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Doesn't look like he has fooled anybody - 1 day left and no bids. Part of the issue I think is Ebay constantly giving free-listing deals - it encourages the chancers to try it on with rubbish fakes in the hope that someone will be taken in, and in the safe knowledge that it has cost them nothing if nobody bites.
  7. Well Ebay suggests £20 to £25 each for those two, so useful finds.
  8. Well I use Chrome and Google all the time, and I can't say I have suffered anymore spam than usual. In fact Gmail is particularly good at filtering out spam emails. The problem with doing your own hard backups is that invariably the disaster strikes when you haven't backed up for a while. Using Chrome logged in on gmail the backup is constant and bang up to date and available from any other machine. So, for example, you could go to the local library, log into gmail, and immediately have all your "home" bookmarks available. The info is all on "the cloud" and not tied to any one machine.
  9. Well a few bits with a little value here - the George V threepence and shilling at least have silver content, but are not worth more than that - maybe £1 for the two. The 1986 Commonwealth games £2 is cashable at the bank for £2 - you might get 3 at a car boot sale. The best of what you have posted are probably the two Christmas 50ps - there seems to be quite a few collectors for these - check on Ebay as I cannot se the dates from your pictures. BTW - no need to post all your pictures twice!
  10. Considering this is what it looked like when I got it, I think it was worth the effort!
  11. Looking for expertise please. I picked up the attached Halfpenny cheaply today - the seller had it marked as 1858, but on closer examination it appears to be 1859 with another number, possibly and 8, under the last digit. 3 Questions: 1. Is this a recognised variety? (I have Freeman but no other books on varieties.) 2. Is this an example of such a thing? 3. Whether I should try to clear off the verdigris, and if so, how? Cheers,
  12. Well I think I have finished playing with this one now. It has had time in the oven as suggested and also time in the sunshine with a little mineral oil on the surface - this seemed to make more difference than the oven to be fair. I have left a little oil on the surface as it is inclined still to look a bit matt. It will now go away in my collections as my example of 1859 over 8 Half Penny.
  13. Alternatively on Chrome, if you log on using a gmail account you can set it to synchronise all - then if you lose everything, when you log back into Chrome on a new machine it automatically reloads all your bookmarks, browsing history, stored passwords - the lot. Came to my rescue when my machine went dulally last week.
  14. I'm not sure why everyone else is having so many problems! I have been on Windows 10 for a couple of years and find it fine. (I did put a link to the File manager into the tabs at the bottom as a first move - can't work out why they want to make managing your files so difficult.) I have an HP printer that works fine wirelessly, as is the broadband. I even have a wireless speaker through which I play all my music from the laptop. You must have said something rude to Cortana and it has never forgiven you!
  15. What is the error? Save me looking it up.... !
  16. Well I hope you are right as I have just invested in one - actually in the First day issue set but pictures clearly show it missing the denomination.
  17. Even Microsoft stay away from Internet Explorer - they have switched to Edge in the hope people will forget the sins of their past. Fat hope.
  18. Are you using Chrome for your browser? If so this from their help page may sort it: https://support.google.com/chrome/forum/AAAAP1KN0B06oa9t7-TWa0?hl=en If you are on another browser, try using their Help facility and search for "Recover Bookmarks".
  19. I have a bunch of coins on Ebay again - finishing Sunday evening. Some excellent condition George VI Half Crowns and Florins at very low prices... https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/pbowen24/m.html?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEFSXS%3AMESOI&_trksid=p2053788.m1543.l2654

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

This one always amuses me - as if "highly polished" is a good thing! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HIGHLY-POLISHED-SILVER-FLORIN-CHOICE-OF-DATE-1920-1946-PERFECT-BIRTHDAY-PRESENT/201153165610?hash=item2ed5a9b92a:m:mB4MTok2MtKe9_E0FiYcFLw

    One Penny 1882

Very nicely done! It would be good to see the other side too. There is a small market for this sort of thing - the purist penny collectors will not touch it, but the token and counter-stamp people may well want it. As it is such a well done example and in great condition I expect someone would pay up to £20 for it. I have seen EdVII and George V pennies engraved to give the king a pipe to smoke making this sort of money.

    Recent Hammered Acquisitions

I am not the man to help you with your Ed penny - I find them very difficult to tell apart. You need @Rob I think. I do know that whatever you are seeing as a "II" is nothing to do with any regnal number.

    One Penny 1882

Hi @bradwobro. I think we will need pictures to be able to help you. We will be guessing without seeing what you are seeing.
