    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Todays eBay sellers has Balls. Just no brains. The exact coin is for sale, he has just copied the exact pictures and listed as if he owns it. The mind boggles. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1937-King-George-VI-Great-Britain-Gold-Proof-Sovereign-PCGS-PR67/263615575945?hash=item3d60b67789:g:7T0AAOSwBgVa1vIT Below is the correct listing https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1937-King-George-VI-Great-Britain-Gold-Proof-Sovereign-PCGS-PR67/162990311360?hash=item25f2fac7c0:g:Sy0AAOSw8LBay89M

    CGS v LCGS

As others have said try a better picture or drop into a local coin show or coin dealer in your area and get a second point of view to see if how much the cloak frosting is with curl on neck. It is a wonderful looking coin, well done. If you are miles from a dealer LCGS will determine this for you, its worth sending it to them for verification.

Not always is the seller an idiot. He could simply be selling off grand dads coins and grandad wrote VF in the book or on the envelope. Not everyone has your knowledge, take it for what it is and the images ignore the grade the seller gives. It is low cost and would make a good filler for you.

Todays fake seller, he has 9 gold coins all fake. he sold one for over £900 two weeks ago. I reported it and eBay did nothing. Shameful. Now he is thinking he is onto a good thing he is listing more https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pcgs-gold-coin-1912-scrap-gold-14-8G/142724483051?hash=item213b0ac7eb:g:hbQAAOSwC81aquAV

Coin Conservation / Restoration. Is it cleaning?

Value wise there is a lot more to say. A cleaned coin will get 40% less than an uncleaned coin. On big ticket such as £12,000 coins thats a lot less value. If we buy a coin in a slab and it does not say anything how does a buyer know if it has been restored or not? It is ruining our industry.
  6. Hi Rob. I do pay 20% VAT on modern coins from the states. 5% if older than 100 years and Zero on Gold coins from 1800 (as long as the total price paid is not more than 180% of Gold price). Am I missing something? Thanks Mark

  11. This is a table I use for my customers and myself. It is not 100% perfect between the grades but as good as I can determine. You are welcome. I wish people would do research before they buy, why would you buy a coin on eBay with low feedback or in the case zero feedback. Their is enough big sellers on eBay with feedback in the tens of thousands selling coins who are respectable.

Hi Paddy. Yes sir, the cert number matches. 1st Red flag it is a Key date Genuine 2nd, A newbie seller with a key date 3rd, The coin is too clean. It has most certainly been cleaned and would only be graded as Genuine or VF details cleaned. 4th, The date numbers are too small and wide. 5th, It would be AU50 at worst, so its down graded so the unsuspecting buyer thinks he is getting a good deal. 6th, The obverse label is too small for the holder and is not stuck down. The image here is a Genuine VF25 Morgan and graded as such, the eBay listing is a better grade and clearly cleaned. This is more than enough red flags. I hope this helps Paddy Fake piece of animal waste on eBay for sale

    All about Sovereigns

If you can use eBay use it. 1000's of collectors and dealers buy from eBay. I often have lists of 'Wanted-Coins' from my customers and search eBay for them. It gives you the chance to get a better price as someone may pay more if they are looking for it. Only use PayPal and stick to the eBay rules dealing and communicating through eBay only and you will come to no harm. If you post out, only use the Paypal address and get a signature. Good luck

The cert number is for a Chinese coin, the coin actually looks like a polished coin and would never get graded like this. Sadly because it is a key date someone will bid on it and get ripped off.

It is not just the ref numbers, look at the up close, they are fake.
  21. Wrong. They're independent. That type of talk is just old womans rumor mill. Please only post facts. In fact Heritage UK takes submissions for NGC, so they are hardly in a cozy relationship with PCGS.

3 x Gold fake coins listed today on eBay. sadly plenty of bidders. I have reported them but sadly eBay have got so slow I doubt they will do anything https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/moreforyou10/m.html?item=112842342985&hash=item1a45ed8249%3Ag%3Ah2IAAOSwkNpagdp1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562
  23. I am jumping in now on this discussion as I feel it is relevant. I recently broke out 4 x CGS coins. All graded from 80-96. I submitted them to NGC (Why because I am guaranteed to get more money at auction with NGC or PCGS than CGS or LCGS, I don't apologize for this, I am a dealer as well as collector and need to put food on my table). The CGS 80 came back "AU Details Cleaned". Because of CGS slack grading I lost money on this coin . The others came back between MS63 and MS65. I suspected they 96 was overgrazed by CGS and I was correct. The grading by a world recognized grading company will cove rtes grading costs and the loss I made on the cleaned coin. I am other dealers will always bid more on big ticket auctions for PCGS or NGC graded coins. When I think about it I should not be surprised. LCGS are really just dealers like many others. They have their own grading service and they use it for coins they sell, so it's the police, policing the police. This is why we use grading companies such as PCGS or NGC. They are in the business of grading coins and make money certifying coins and not selling them. LCGS are in the business of selling coins and as a side line offer a grading service. When you consider some coins can jump sometimes tens of thousands for one grade, does LCGS really have the coin collectors best interest at heart? While I like the Sheldon scale, I also see nothing wrong with LCGS 100 scale, but with my hand on my heart can not trust LCGS to do the right thing for a coin collector. One other point, the CGS/LCGS slabs are crap, they don't fit in proper holders, are hard to stack of you like me travel with 50-80 graded coins in my brief case, but its a moot point. If you are a CSG graded coin collector, one day you or your next of kin may wish to sell them. They/you may have to sell them in one go and contact a dealer or place them at a large auction house like Heritage Auction/ Stacks & Bowers. Bidders will not the grading seriously and the final hammer price will be much lower. Knowing this I wonder why people waste money on LCGS service?
