Greetings! I haven't been here that long, but it's a big part of my time on the web. Join in and read what people have said about your particular coins of fancy. Some people on here know so much about the subject it's scary- don't let that put you off- no-one ever gets talked down to. Some people here can afford amazing coins- don't let that put you off either. If you find something that you think is interesting, chances are it will be appreciated. Blake

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Things that are flavour of the month have done this in many ares for years. If something is liked, and may be an investment, when interest rates are low or even negative, this happens. I went this summer to look at a recording console in Malmö, just a small one about five feet wide, and I asked how much it was up for, and the reply was "250". I asked if that was Kroner, much laughter. £250K..... Was that crazy? Surprising, yes, but it went for that amount, the customer was pleased, the seller was pleased, and went and spent the money on other things. Was this greed? I don't think so.....

I spent a lot of time at the Marshall factory this year. Their old gear collection is amazing- they still have Amplifier no.1.....!!
  8. I've been offered my friends Racal RA17 receiver with the SSB auto module on top. I asked him if it was any good yesterday afternoon, and he connected a piece of wire and hung it over a beam in his garage- a 3 foot aerial indoors... I tuned for 30 seconds and got a guy in Italy talking to someone in Pennsylvania. Both sides of the conversation clear as clear. Amazing piece of kit. Trouble is, it's a 2 foot cube and heavy......built like a tank.

Same tricks in the old audio gear business. The most annoying was when a bit of old gear turned, of the make that's my speciality, up that was out of RTE in Ireland, and was just a small add-on unit to other gear. Slowly, after someone had rewired and modified it ineptly, and it had passed through a few hands, it had morphed into a 'desirable piece of rare equipment'. A guy selling it asked if he could bring it to me for appraisal. I had the factory build file on the unit, so I knew damn well what it was originally, and could tell what had been done to it. He turned up, I took the lid off, peered inside, and told him about all the horrible wiring that had been added, and what It would need to be useable and noise-free etc. He went away, stuck it on Ebay as it was, and in the description, said that I had 'looked at it'....... hoping of course, that a prospective buyer would see this as a stamp of approval. Well, I had looked at it, inasmuch as light reflecting off it had gone through my pupils and formed an image on my retinas....! The guy got one of the rudest emails I have ever sent and he changed the listing. Incidentally, but smacking of the initial post, the price, over the months, had gone from an initial couple of hundred to SIX GRAND!!! ( Don't get me started on 'provenance'......mind you, I did give friend of mine, a Who fan, John Entwistle's Ronco Record Cleaner....)

    PCGS losing credibility

I cannot believe that people believe the CGS picture to be real!!!! They would spend all that money based on that ??? I'm stunned by the contrast between that and the pic of the actual coin. Stunned.

    What is This Error?

Well, If I wanted to practice filling a dent in copper or bronze with a braze, I'd put a dent in a penny, and have a go.

    What is This Error?

I'm with Rob on this- looks like a practice braze. The fill metal looks to me to be a different alloy, as a braze filler rod would be. The brazer didn't use enough flux either, or didn't clean the penny properly, or didn't apply sufficient heat.....
  18. Is it just me, but every time someone on Ebay lists an Edwardian coin, and describes it as "KEV11", I can't help wondering whether we ever had a 'King Kevin the Second' ....

    Pictures

I still say it's a Garden Wolf, from that single picture. - even if a picture doesn't show the markings, the front legs are a guide.
