When I read through, I don't even notice the faults... the info is what is important to me... but that may have something to do with English not been my first language...

I didn't even know there was a doble tt version of the book. Mine has only 1 t in Britain on the cover, and anywhere else I checked after reading this posts.

Look on the Spine Juan, they're all 'Double T' variety!

Alright, I know, I know! Don't bloody rub it in! ;)

Posted

I am not rubbing it in... it's just funny.

Don't worry, as soon as the content is good, I don't mind. If you ever make a re-run of the books with a single t, let us know! :D

I believe that that has already happened...has it not?

Posted

No, not yet, I have a little over 2000 of the TT left.

Finally seen the book in WH Smith Southampton... didn't buy it though because I've ordered one direct! It's bigger than I thought :)

Posted

Yes, there should be at least 1 in every WH Smith branch, I've had a few reports of the book being seen in various branches. Hopefully they are selling too.

Posted

At least the Whitehaven branch of Smiths has replaced the one I bought!!

Posted

Good stuff. I heard from someone that bought a copy, saw the phone number and called me wanting a copy of the banknote book.

So that's a confirmed 2 sold in WHS Branches! I expect there have been more across the country.

Oh dear, another error...tut tut tut...Page 24, 1882H 2/1 penny £60 in EF, £150 in UNC and £70 in BU...;)

ooops.

Whoever wrote that error laden book should be, erm, regretful that there was no time to have it properly proof read!

Tip:

The book has the bright 1918 farthing above the dark 1918 farthing, it would be better the other way round because otherwise it goes:

1917 Dark

1918 Bright

1918 Dark

1919 Bright

Also, error:

Page 13, 1951 farthing BU price is higher than 1951 proof BU price.

At least, Chris, it goes to show we all READ the book and not just put it on the shelf as reference!! :P

I've just received the ' Roman Base Metal Coins'. Ta! An excellent read. I've already started to re catalogue some of my later worn coins. Noticed the decimal scale in the back. I'm surprised it is still accurate! Handy too. Any though ts on Byzantine to follow up?

Another error (CCGB2005) (don't know if this has been spotted yet):

Page 55 - 1961 Esc.798R says "Struck on pilished blank".

Should be "polished" :)

Get away! I'd never have thought of that!!! :D

Have you sold any CC2005 books to Ottakers Chris only I saw one on the shelf whilst looking for Alan Sugars book?

Posted

Yes, they get them from the same people that Amazon.co.uk get them from. They are a stock item and should be in every Ottakars branch.

I was quite pleased with that. I managed to get the email address of a lovely helpful lady at Ottakars, who was, with slight persuasion, able to get the man responsible to make them a stock item!

Don't even think about coming in here, asking questions, getting answers, and then putting your coins on eBay with a pasted version of what was said about your item in this forum! If you want to sell your coins, let me know, I really pay very fair prices and I'm not that fussy. ;-)

How often has this happened, Chris?

Posted

I seem to remember about 3 times when I've noticed it, so there may well have been more. I don't look on ebay for coins that much.

These days, everyone can sell anything directly can't they, and in a way that's a pity for all specialist trades because it makes it a little more difficult for them to acquire odd little items. Thankfully people generally can't be bothered to catalogue and identify whole collections for ebay, and there are some that don't bother, so the future is still rosy for coin dealers!

I mean 50 year ago if you wanted a shirt, you'd go to a tailor. Now you can get one on ebay....Come to think of it, you can get one in a Supermarket or even a petrol station too! In fact everywhere you go you get bombarded with things you didn't really go there for!

I digress.

And which petrol station is it that has the tray full of Gothic florins next to the shirt rack?? :P:P
