Help Identifing a coin please.

I have been going through a coin collection I had from a kid and this coin was one I found in my grandparents garden. It is heavily worn but has some clues for someone who knows their stuff. I think the date is 1797 but could be wrong and trawled Bing Images trying to find something that matches without joy.

French 1793 2 sols, but I've no idea what mint as it is flat at that point.

Thanks Rob. I hadn't considered it being French. How it got into a garden in the Scottish Borders is forever a mystery.
