Asumel Posted June 9, 2014 Author Posted June 9, 2014 I did think there was something missing on the top, seems to be that ring.Just go to find a little history on it now, if anyone could help as i'm stuggling Quote
josie Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Nearest i can find ishttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Boer_WarMaybe it is a infantry or fvsilier medalet or medal....or token? for the camp. Quote
Asumel Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Its defiantly not a token with the loop that is supposed to have, it suggests it might be a small medal or pendant of some sort but even with the reference numbers from the previous links i still haven't found anything on it. All part of the fun Quote
josie Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Maybe it is general service medal for infantry.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_awards_and_decorations_of_the_United_KingdomA transition pace for medals...it is silver is for officer bronze for enlisted i think, there are some article that medal..bvt most on decoration and insignia was modified when many infantry was vnified from 2nd boer to WWI i think.http://books.google.ie/books?id=BsNguHQdG0wC&pg=PA23&dq=BOER+INFANTRY+MEDAL&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ltSWU8CHOsXF7AagtoGgAQ&ved=0CDsQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=BOER%20INFANTRY%20MEDAL&f=falseMaybe this one is close i think.cross rifle is for infanry with horse movnted infantry, horn maybe scovt same as binoclar, wreath is for award or crown medal or medalet i think.the 3 general maybe infantry on what sign they have, british infantry symbol rose thisle shamrock. Fubar Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I believe this was issued in commemoration of the Relief of Mafeking during the Boer War of 1899 to 1903.No military connection but the sort of civilian medallion sold quite commonly in the early 20th Century. It probably had a patriotic red, white and blue ribbon.Similar items were produced for royal weddings, funeral, coronations, etc.Not limited to medals this sort of commemorative would also include, tins, flags, tie pins, coins, etc. Quote
