JPK Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Hi,can anyone confirm the mint & moneyer on this Penny ,I think it's LIOFPINE ON GIP,not too sure these pics are gonna be good enough,or there just isn't enough detail to confirm.I'm considering putting this one into auction, any ideas on what I could expect it to fetch. HistoricCoinage Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) The photograph doesn't make it clear but I'd say IELFPINE ON GIP which would make it Ælfwine. As for what it could fetch, entirely depends on where you're listing it. But I'd expect £1,250 - £1,500. Edited March 7, 2014 by HistoricCoinage Quote

Luckily the rarity of the reign keeps the prices up a bit, but even for the best issue this one is a bit grim. Edited March 8, 2014 by Rob Quote

Rob Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It is one of a few reigns (Henry 1 is another) where the scarcity of the reign is almost as important as the mint. The premium for a rare mint rarely seems to exceed 30% for W2, whereas for common reigns such as Cnut, we are talking an order of magnitude (or more) Quote
