Guest Neil_I'm_a_Guest Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 I feel a little humble on this forum reading through the previous posts but I wondered if anybody could help me with a non experts query.I'm trying to collect all British coins dated from the year of my birth - 1961.Could anybody provide details of which coins were dated that year - I'm certainly having trouble finding a half-penny with that particular date. Many thanks for your timeNeil Quote
Half Penny Jon Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 Coins of that year are generally common. I am not surprised to hear that the 1961 halfpenny is giving you grief...........they are not as easy to get as is generally thought. Try contacting the leader of this forum (Chris Perkins) cp@predecimal.com. He may have one. Quote

Emperor Oli Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 If you scour eBay, you may be even to find a standard proof or brilliant uncirculated set produced by the Royal Mint, although I'm not sure if they made them at that time. In them, you'll find all the general coins issued for circulation that year (not gold, maundy, etc.) Quote
wybrit Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 The reason you can not find one is that no for-circulation halfpennies were minted in 1961. This is the only year in the bronze series (1860-1967) that a halfpenny was not struck. Those that were struck that year: penny, threepence, sixpence, shilling (English and Scottish), florin and halfcrown. The halfcrown of 1961 is found struck on proof blanks as well as on standard blanks. Quote
