Guest jabrett Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 Hi,I now know I have a penny / cartwheel but have been searching around to find out why mine has a large "WM" inscription on the face. I'm guessing this is some form of advert or a mark to signify where it was manufactured. Any ideas. Are some more valuable than others? ( or worth less ? ).If anyone could let me know or give me some ideas where to look that would be great. Quote
Emperor Oli Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 I'm afraid it devalues in significantly. Is it a stamp or etched in with something sharp, like a knife? Some coins etched with a knife are graffiti pieces, perhaps mocking the King etc. Quote

It looks as though it was done at the same time as the coin was made as it is as deep as the inscription around the edge of the coin and has a distinct type face.
