dvw1974 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Hi,Recently came across this coin when I purchased a coin lot. Having trouble identifying it. Can anyone assist? Thanks Quote
HistoricCoinage Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Depending on its diameter it's a Bohemond VII 'Cross & Castle' Crusader Groat which is about 26/27mm. The legend around the castle reads CIVITAS TRIPOLIS SVRIE which is Trabli, now in Lebanon. The obverse, around the cross, reads +SEPTIMIVS BOEMVNDVS COMES. Circa 1278.Whether it's genuine or not is a different question. The 'silver' looks a little suspect from the images, it is hard to tell. Quote

I was going to make an 'educated guess' and say it looked to be a medieval Continental coin, possibly connected with the Knights Templar / Crusades. Quote
