tracyaw Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Going through my pennies looking at oddities, saw this tiny tail sticking out from the 8 on a 1948 penny. Stamp over or mint error or something else?http://i344.photobucket.com/albums/p328/rebelesque/eight.jpg Quote
declanwmagee Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 hmmm, you're going to have to do something about your photography, Tracy. A little tripod for a tenner or so, and an angle poise lamp, and you'll be amazed at what a bog standard digital camera can do. Quote
tracyaw Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Lol it is definately there Declan that little tail, but as you say not photographed very well. Quote
Rob Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 More likely to be a die flaw than an overstruck date. There are no known 20th century penny overdates to my knowledge, or for that matter halfpennies or farthings. The mint had got its act together by this time and with everything reduced down from the original engraving, the scope for manually changing dies was virtually eliminated. Quote
