8 Over Another Number Maybe

Going through my pennies looking at oddities, saw this tiny tail sticking out from the 8 on a 1948 penny. Stamp over or mint error or something else?

hmmm, you're going to have to do something about your photography, Tracy. A little tripod for a tenner or so, and an angle poise lamp, and you'll be amazed at what a bog standard digital camera can do.

Lol it is definately there Declan that little tail, but as you say not photographed very well.

More likely to be a die flaw than an overstruck date. There are no known 20th century penny overdates to my knowledge, or for that matter halfpennies or farthings. The mint had got its act together by this time and with everything reduced down from the original engraving, the scope for manually changing dies was virtually eliminated.
