Mat Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Hi allI am not particularly experienced with the GIII bank tokens. I have acquired the pictured 1812 18d first bust which seems to have extraordinary sharp edges and a couple of other proof characteristics. I have compared it to another 1812 in EF and the edges are definitely sharper and more defined. It has a nice kind of toning as well but I dare say it is re-toning from being cleaned at some point. The fields are quite reflective although I have not been able to capture this in the picture. Spink does not list an 1812 18d first bust proof. Does anyone have any thoughts on an 1812 proof first bust issue? I know that the 1811 first bust proof is quite different from the standard issue.CheersMat Quote
Rob Posted June 5, 2011 Posted June 5, 2011 Initial thoughts are that the rims aren't wide enough and the detail not sufficiently crisp. It looks to have been cleaned as there are wipe marks in front of the bust. Quote
